The Economic Development and Culture (EDC) Division at the City of Toronto works to promote prosperity, opportunity, and livability by fostering employment, investment, and cultural vibrancy through enhanced experiences and partnerships.
EDC's Museum & Heritage Services operates 10 historic sites, including Toronto's Fort York National Historic Site and Spadina Museum, which tell the story of Toronto. As Manager, Museums, you will provide strategic leadership, oversee museum operations, programming, and development, and ensure divisional priorities are met while representing diverse voices in storytelling.
Reporting to the Director, Museums & Heritage Services, your responsibilities include planning annual work programs, developing revenue-generating initiatives (grants, sponsorships, fees), managing budgets, and overseeing multiple historic sites. You will lead staff, develop policies, manage partnerships, ensure standards, and coordinate community engagement and capital projects.
Key responsibilities include managing staff, budgets, programs, community relations, museum standards, visitor experience, and capital planning. You will also develop interpretive plans, oversee restoration projects, and represent the city in major cultural projects nationally and internationally.
Key qualifications include post-secondary education or equivalent experience, extensive experience in visitor engagement, budget management, team leadership, program development, and knowledge of relevant legislation and software applications. Lived experience as a member of an Indigenous, Black, or equity-deserving group, demonstrating justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, is an asset.
