Job Description

Job Overview:

The Manager, Learning and Development is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering new training programs and initiatives for the Specialty Health Network business. This role will work closely with the Senior Manager, Learning and Development to understand needs analysis and performance objectives to identify gaps and design effective training solutions that build employee competencies within their roles. The Manager, Learning and Development will develop, deliver, and evaluate training programs that improve performance of employees and deliver overall business success. The Manager, Learning and Development will support the overall management of training systems, content, and support materials for the Specialty Health Network business.

Accountabilities:

Management

  • Execute the day-to-day responsibilities of designing, developing and delivery of training and development opportunities to the Customer Experience, Patient Support, and Supply Chain Teams, ensuring smooth and efficient execution of duties to keep the business’s workforce at peak performance.
  • Facilitate ongoing training programs to meet changing program and business needs.
  • Responsible to develop and deliver customer service focused training, and prepare resource material and artifacts and management for the training curriculums for Operations team members.
  • Work with Senior Manager, Learning and Development and Operations Management team members to assess performance improvement and progress of ongoing training programs.
  • Assist with the on-time execution of training requirements, monitoring budget constraints where required.
  • Develop program materials to ensure consistency in quality of training program initiatives, and materials required to launch new Patient Support Programs. Assist in the ongoing updates of PSP course materials – including the design, development and delivery of technical materials/curriculum, including course outlines, student guides, exercise guides, quick reference guides, business process procedures, appendix items, etc.
  • Maintain appropriate version change control and adhere to document management guidelines.
  • Participate in training sessions and co-deliver training alongside business experts.
  • Seek out and use all available resources including, but not limited to, Business Process Experts and Subject Matter Experts.
  • Manage direct reports, including performance management, goal setting, coaching and feedback with the goal of supporting employee development and success.
  • Report all Adverse Events (AE) and Product Technical Complaints (PTC) immediately or as soon as possible upon becoming aware of the event as per current policies and procedures.

Strategy

  • Participate in Learning and Development planning for Specialty Health Network.
  • Assist in innovative training program development.
  • Facilitate and develop effective online resources and training toolkits.
  • Execute strategic training to improve the skills of SHN employees including critical thinking, business fundamentals and leadership.
  • Create, design, and continuously improve training content, including outlines, presentations, agendas, associated materials, artifacts etc.

Collaboration

  • Actively collaborate with leaders and staff from different areas of the SHN business.
  • Work closely with various areas of the business and management in developing training activities unique to the Patient Support Programs and align business needs to the needs of the Specialty Health Network staff.
  • Collaborate with Senior Manager, Learning and Development to design training materials to support ongoing strategies and initiatives.
  • Work well within a group setting, demonstrate commitment and take personal responsibility for group performance, and demonstrate a strong work ethic and level of motivation under minimal supervision.

Analytics

  • Ability to measure training success through the assessment of different performance metrics.
  • Identify points of improvement and present solutions with the goal of improving effectiveness.
  • Work with Senior Manager, Learning and Development to create reports to measure training initiative effectiveness to be provided to senior leadership.
  • Demonstrate an ability to identify gaps and problems, and begin to problem solve and creatively overcome challenges.

Knowledge

  • Maximize the effectiveness of the training initiatives by staying current on training best practices, methods, tools, devices, and technology.
  • Utilize best practices in instructional design, facilitation, and adult education techniques to ensure the utmost effectiveness of training program execution.
  • Participate in training events, seminars, and conferences to gather information that keeps the departments practices current and adaptable to business needs.
  • Demonstrate exceptional technical skills through use of MS Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint.

Communication Skills

  • Communicate effectively to a variety of audiences through written and verbal communication.
  • Relay instruction with clarity and to pass down information of varying sensitivity to SHN staff.
  • Utilize varying instruction and presentation techniques to keep attendees engaged during training session, while clearly relaying learning objectives for different subjects in an effective manner.

Other Duties

  • The Manager, Learning and Development will also carry out other duties and projects as required.

Job Qualifications

  • Post-secondary/university degree with specialization in training, performance instruction, adult education, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to present and articulate training programs and processes confidently to varying audiences.
  • Experience developing successful training programs that have led to employee performance improvement and ultimately had a positive influence on the business’s overall performance and effectiveness.
  • Experience designing, writing, and creating technical based training curriculum/materials.
  • Ability to adapt positively to a changing environment, shifting priorities to achieve changing objectives.
  • Dedicated team player with desire to work collaboratively to solve problems and execute initiatives.
  • Polished communication skills and ability to interact effectively with all levels of colleagues to maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Proactive and self-motivated to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Creative thinker, with ability to think strategically.
  • Highly proficient in project planning, highly organized, have an ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines, manage concurrent projects.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems is an asset.
  • Experience with instructional design and eLearning development (Articulate Rise/Storyline) is an asset.
