A Day in the Life of a Manager in Training

Imagine starting your day with purpose and energy as a Manager in Training at Surplus Furniture and Mattress Warehouse, where you’re not just building a career—you’re shaping the future of a thriving retail team. Here’s what your typical day might look like:

Morning: Jump-Start the Day

  • Arrive early to open the store, ensuring the space is clean, organized, and ready to impress customers.
  • Check the day’s sales goals and team schedules, aligning the team for success.
  • Host a quick team huddle to energize your Sales Associates, discuss promotions, and share best practices.
  • Review inventory, address any stock issues, and ensure top-selling items are displayed prominently to drive sales.

Mid-Morning: Coaching and Leading

  • Actively train Sales Associates, offering hands-on guidance to help them refine their selling skills and exceed targets.
  • Conduct a walkthrough of the store, ensuring the merchandising is visually appealing and inventory is properly managed.
  • Handle customer inquiries and sales, setting an example by building rapport and closing deals while maintaining exceptional service.

Afternoon: Operational Excellence

  • Assist with inventory management, including receiving shipments, pricing adjustments, and organizing the sales floor.
  • Problem-solve any operational challenges, such as scheduling adjustments or resolving customer concerns.
  • Work with the Store Manager to track daily progress toward sales goals and strategize for the rest of the day.

Evening: Sales and Closing

  • Step into a leadership role to motivate the team during the afternoon rush, ensuring every customer feels valued and served.
  • Process payments, review daily sales metrics, and update the Store Manager on successes and areas of improvement.
  • Wrap up the day by closing the store, ensuring cash handling, security, and cleanliness protocols are completed.
