Job summary

Export Development Canada (EDC) in Ottawa is seeking a Manager, IFG to lead a team of Financing Managers within the International Financing Guarantees group. The role focuses on delivering timely, high-quality financing services to clients, while aligning with EDC's mandate and risk framework.

The position requires seven years in financial services, strong credit and leadership abilities, and fluency in English and French. Hybrid work is offered with offices in Ottawa, Toronto, or Montreal.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or related field.
• Minimum of seven years of experience in financial services.
• Advanced knowledge of structuring or restructuring in commercial lending and/or loan portfolio management.
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision‐making skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the team to provide predictable, timely, and high-quality financing services.
• Support the team and regional partners from pre-opportunity through underwriting.
• Provide oversight, coaching, and guidance to Financing Managers during underwriting.
• Interpret client financing needs and identify practical solutions aligned with mandate and risk appetite.
• Exercise delegated authority to approve transactions within limits or escalate to Director/VP as needed.
• Develop and motivate direct reports, manage performance, and build capacity.
• Contribute to development of program/sector strategies and ensure effective execution.
• Champion continuous improvement through problem solving and ad hoc projects.
• Support the Director in executing the program strategy.

Compensation Details

• Mgr Underwriter 19: Salaries typically range from $112,006 to $149,341 annually, based on qualifications and experiences

Location

• Export Development Canada operates under a hybrid work model, with employees currently required to work from the office three days per week.
• This role can be performed from EDC's headquarters in Ottawa (preferred) or from our Community Hub in Toronto or Montreal.

Team Overview

EDC's Working Capital Solutions group provides financing solutions that support Canadian exports and foreign investments. We work with Canadian exporters and their foreign customers, Canadian investors and their foreign affiliates, and financial institutions.

Within Working Capital Solutions, the International Financing Guarantees team is seeking an experienced finance leader who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys working regularly with colleagues, financial institutions, and clients. Keeping customer needs at the centre, the Manager will lead a team of Financing Managers and work closely with Business Development, Legal Services, the advisory teams, and external financial institution partners. The successful candidate will help the team achieve the right balance between customer-focused solutions and EDC's business and risk requirements.

What you will be doing

• Lead the team to provide predictable, timely, and high-quality financing services
• Support the team and regional partners—including Business Development leaders, Account Managers, and Global Account Directors from the pre-opportunity stage through identification of a financing solution and entry into underwriting
• Provide oversight, coaching, and guidance to Financing Managers throughout the underwriting process
• Interpret client financing needs, assess requirements, and identify practical solutions aligned with EDC's mandate and risk appetite
• Exercise delegated authority to approve transactions within prescribed limits and recommend transactions to the Director or Vice-President when required
• Lead, develop, and motivate direct reports by managing performance, supporting career and skills development, and ensuring the team has the capacity and capability to meet organizational needs
• Contribute to the development of program and sector strategies and support their effective execution
• Champion continuous improvement by identifying opportunities, solving problems, and participating in or leading ad hoc projects
• Support the Director in executing the program strategy

What we are looking for

• Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field
• Minimum of seven years of experience in financial services
• Advanced knowledge of structuring or restructuring in commercial lending and/or loan portfolio management
• Demonstrated leadership ability and experience operating in a high-performing, fast-paced team environment
• Strong financial analysis and credit skills
• Ability to lead, coach, and motivate employees
• Strong business judgment and decision-making skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French
• Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in an energetic, fast-paced environment
• Strong understanding of credit risk standards, practices, and policies
• Detail-oriented and well organized, with effective time-management skills
• Highly motivated and solution-oriented, with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively
