Position Details

Title: Manager, Human Resources (Wellness & Ability Management Portfolio)

Department: Human Resources

Reports to: Director, Human Resources

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Manager will oversee the development, administration, and evaluation of the Disability and Attendance Management program. Responsibilities include providing leadership, consultation, coaching, and guidance on these programs, managing claims, and supporting employee retention and engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Promote innovation and strategic HR solutions to foster a positive workplace culture, engagement, and inclusion.
  2. Provide advice and support on HR matters in accordance with policies, collective agreements, and legislation.
  3. Collaborate with other departments.
  4. Implement prevention and early intervention initiatives to improve employee health and wellness.
  5. Manage the stay-at-work and graduated return-to-work programs in compliance with legislation and policies.
  6. Prepare case summaries and documentation for claims, protests, and appeals.
  7. Handle complex disability cases with care and compassion.
  8. Develop effective return-to-work plans and accommodations.
  9. Manage medical assessments, treatment programs, and interventions.
  10. Oversee the EFAP Program and manage Short and Long Term Disability programs, liaising with third-party insurers.
  11. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Disability Management, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years of progressive HR experience in a multi-site unionized setting, with knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Degree in Human Resources Management, Educational Leadership, or related field.
  • CPHR designation is an asset.
  • Experience in the K-12 sector is preferred.
