Summary

DMC is currently looking for a Manager, HSEC (Projects) to join our team in Sudbury, ON. The Manager, HSEC (Projects) is responsible for providing subject matter expertise and proactively leading the Project HSE Team, ensuring all corporate, client and regulated health and safety objectives, programs, and training requirements are met on the site. This role will work with the regional Manager, HSEC, the broader Corporate HSEC team, as well as supporting Operations at a project level. This role will have responsibility for the Project Common Core Training and working with the DMC Signing Authority to ensure alignment to the DMC Training Programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of the annual strategic HSE action plan and implementation of health and safety objectives, processes, programs, and initiatives at the Project.
  • Ensure health, safety and security programs and supporting plans are developed, communicated, implemented, and reviewed; lead and support the site team on such matters.
  • Coordinate with Project teams to continually improve health, safety, and security performance through the identification of risks and opportunities.
  • Manage, review, and assess health & safety data as a tool for continuous improvement.
  • Audit the Project annually to assess the programs and controls in use against the Project HSE Plan, DMC Corporate HSE Management System and Client requirements.
  • Establish and manage the embed the Project health and industrial hygiene program.
  • Together with the Project leadership team, lead and support the implementation and continuous improvement of the Health, Safety and Security programs to mitigate risk, prevent injuries, meet regulatory requirements, protect people, property, and the environment across the site.
  • Facilitate and participate in the development, implementation and ongoing review of risk assessments, the site risk register and control plans.
  • Design and document creative training solutions as required by the organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop training materials including participant guides, leader guides, job aids, and other resources that effectively support participants' achievement of the instructional objectives and provide training.
  • Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all the Health and Safety legislation and any developments that affect the global mining industry.
  • Collect and analyze monthly and quarterly HSE and Training statistics and develop reports.
  • Facilitate the investigation of incidents, and injuries and ensure the compilation and submittal of incident reports required by the Company and regulatory agencies, when required.
  • Utilize DMC’s Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) Management Systems Standards and develop Project-Specific HSEC Execution Plans.
  • Other related duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experienced in large Mining Project HSE Team leadership.
  • Post-secondary education in a related field.
  • 770121 First Line Supervisor Underground Common Core.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an HSEC Supervisory role within the Mining Industry.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Underground Mining.
  • Shaft Sinking Experience.
  • Qualified in Underground, Surface, and Train-the-Trainer.
  • CRSP designation is an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other related regulations.
  • Ability to achieve stakeholder buy-in and proven ability to build trusted relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legislative and regulatory factors relating to the mining industry.
  • Familiar with risk assessment, confined space, and management of change programs.
  • Experience in developing employee-based safety teams for Emergency Response and Mine Rescue.
  • Knowledge of designated substances and legislation.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem solving, and written/ verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software is a requirement.
