Job description

Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 890,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through a dual pipeline system of more than 1,150 kilometres in Alberta, British Columbia, and Washington state.

Trans Mountain also operates a state-of-the-art loading facility, Westridge Marine Terminal, with three berths providing tidewater access to global markets.

Reporting to the Director, Total Rewards, the Manager, HR Operations will oversee systems, processes, controls, data privacy, and records management for all workforce information. The role also leads Payroll, HRIS, and HR Operations teams.

This position is based in Calgary, working full-time in-office as per our 'Office First' policy.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Establish and maintain a high-performance culture within Payroll and HR Operations, fostering collaboration and innovation.
  2. Identify efficiencies and collaborate with HR and IT to implement improvements.
  3. Optimize HR technology through automation and enhancements.
  4. Coordinate with IT and vendors to improve HR solutions.
  5. Handle escalations and coordinate issue resolution with teams.
  6. Support building strong relationships with clients and provide high-level customer service.
  7. Ensure operational excellence aligned with company strategies.
  8. Build relationships within the team and with HR leaders to ensure value delivery.
  9. Analyze workflows for improvements; ensure HR systems are efficient and accurate.
  10. Advise on HR systems and operational issues; collaborate with IT leadership.
  11. Ensure compliance with employment, payroll, privacy laws, and policies.
  12. Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and compliance in Canada and the U.S.
  13. Maintain systematic record keeping and liaise with auditors.
  14. Develop and implement HR operational strategies and policies.
  15. Streamline HR processes and improve data accuracy and service delivery.
  16. Support change management initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills

  1. Experience managing Canadian/US payroll is an asset.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  3. 10+ years of progressive HR experience with an impeccable record.
  4. Over 5 years leading HR teams and managing HR Operations/HRIS.
  5. Analytical with a quantitative mindset.
  6. Strong problem-solving, project management, and strategic thinking skills.
  7. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  8. Ability to influence and collaborate across teams.
  9. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  10. Experience with HRIS and payroll system implementation.
  11. Strong interpersonal, tact, discretion, and confidentiality.
  12. Positive attitude and proactive problem solver.
  13. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an executive presence.
  14. Effective time management and project delegation skills.
  15. Experience with Microsoft D365 and/or ADP Workforce Now is an asset.
  16. Knowledge of Canada Labour Code is an asset.
