Reporting to the Director, Public Health, and working closely with the zone public health management team, the Manager is responsible for anticipating and planning the public health resources and action required to promote and support the development of policies and physical, social and built environments to improve health for all. The Manager ensures resources are deployed to achieve consistent practice that is aligned with the Healthy Communities and Middle Years and Youth Public Health standards and protocols. They actively identify emerging issues within the zone and takes action to improve quality, reduce inequities and achieve measurable improvements that create supportive environments that promote health. The Manager manages recruitment, orientation, performance management and change management for the team. The Manager collaborates with Healthy Communities Managers across the zones and at the provincial level to fulfill the provincial program mandate and to seek opportunities for quality improvement in the program area.
The Manager leads a multi-disciplinary team of public health practitioners, whose work is focused on supporting healthy public policy development in various settings, creating supportive environments to protect and promote health and influencing policy change to reduce inequities. In addition, they are responsible for providing leadership and support for the understanding the needs, assets and collaboratively taking action on the health of children in the middle years and youth. They collaborate with the Manager, Healthy Communities, Science and System Performance to translate evidence to action, identify policy levers and contribute to best practice.
The Manager identifies opportunities for quality improvement within the zone, continually monitoring and measuring team progress, competencies and outcomes. As the champion for healthy communities’ work within the zone, the Manager pursues opportunities to connect and integrate with other teams, partners and stakeholders with the aim of optimizing impacts and achieving outcomes consistent with the Healthy Communities and Middle Years and Youth standards and protocols.
About the Opportunity ContinuedThe Manager is responsible to ensure knowledge is translated into action across the zone and that staff continually demonstrates high levels of proficiency and professionalism in accordance with established standards and the Public Health Core Competencies. The incumbent provides direction and oversight to staff related to program implementation, monitoring processes and outcomes per established accountability frameworks and engaging staff in active learning, team development.
The Manager fosters a shared and common vision for healthy communities’ work across the zone by setting goals, communicating, monitoring and evaluating achievements of the team. Contributing to and leading provincial initiatives as assigned, the Manager identifies opportunities for advancing healthy communities work across the zone and province, connecting ideas and evidence, and fostering a culture of respect, curiosity, accountability, teamwork and innovation well beyond the zone level.
The Manager demonstrates a core set of public health attitudes and values, applies public health core competencies to all of their work, and; is accountable to provide competent, safe and ethical professional practice.

Hours$46.36 - $61.60 Hourly
