Main Position Objective:
The employee is responsible for creating, maintaining, and reviewing the health and safety program for the Vancouver plant. The incumbent makes continuous analysis of the site to recognize potential health and safety issues and devise strategies to mitigate them. The employee makes regular correspondence with WorkSafeBC to ensure that the company is adhering to all the legal norms and is avoiding any penalties due to violations of regulations. The employee will also drive change towards a positive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities and Other Duties:
- Design, review, and update health and safety programs for the plant located in Vancouver.
- Develop and establish a culture of safety in the overall functioning of operations and recognize measures to improve safety across the Vancouver refinery.
- Manage existing safety programs and ensure adherence to all rules and policies.
- Assist in ensuring adherence to ‘Food Safety Policies’ by acting as an active member of the ‘Food Safety Defense Team’.
- Conduct regular site analysis to recognize potential safety hazards and devise solutions to tackle them.
- Issue safety equipment and maintain records for the same.
- Review and update safety documents.
- Organize training sessions for Unionized and Salaried employees.
- Study collective agreements and legislations.
- Assist and support EHS Corporate Manager in standardizing the safety program across all locations.
- Assist the site security team and suggest measures to ensure safety and security on site.
- Engage with external vendors to source requisite protective equipment (PPE).
- Request service orders and work orders in case of repair or modification to improve safety measures.
- Attend food safety meetings and assist in internal audits.
- Interview personnel and review documents to ensure that the company is adhering to all safety policies.
- Contact and coordinate with WorkSafeBC to ensure that the organization is adhering to all legal norms and has programs in place to ensure safety and security.
- Attend conferences and seminars to update knowledge about health and safety measures.
- Attend courses to update knowledge about health and safety hazards and measures.
- Any and all other activities as required.

Academic and Professional Prerequisites:
- Post-Secondary education in administration. Certified Registered Safety Professional certificate is an asset.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in supervision of safety. Experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
