Job summary

CAA Club Group in Canada is seeking an experienced Government Relations professional to advance insurance interests with regulators, policymakers, and industry partners. You will coordinate across internal teams and external stakeholders to craft strategic communications and advocacy efforts.

The role requires nuanced understanding of Canadian public policy, lobbying best practices, and strong relationship-building skills.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of Government Relations (advocacy/lobbying) experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian public policy and regulatory systems.
  • Degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Public Administration, or Communications; graduate degree is an asset.
  • Clear, respectful communications and persuasive influencing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal teams, government officials, regulators, and industry stakeholders to advance CCG’s insurance interests while safeguarding confidentiality and demonstrating a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Collaborate with internal GR and insurance teams (CAA Insurance, Orion Travel Insurance, Echelon) to produce government-facing communications aligned with core objectives.
  • Respond to stakeholder inquiries with critical thinking and proactive solutions.
  • Foster and grow relationships with policymakers, advisors, NGOs and trade associations as per GR and lobbying responsibilities.
  • Prepare key messages, correspondence, and briefing materials for meetings with government, internal teams, and Boards.
  • Support alignment with other CAA clubs and stakeholders to ensure consistent positioning across jurisdictions.
  • Represent CCG on select industry committees and forums to advance insurance priorities.
  • Execute core elements of the insurance government relations strategy, ensuring effective representation and advocacy with government and regulatory bodies.
  • Draft and deliver internal and external presentations, meeting notes, along with government deputations, correspondence, consultation documents and briefing materials geared to regulators, elected officials, key stakeholders and others connected to insurance files.

Position Details
What You Will Do

Please note, salary range is not inclusive of total compensation. The expected salary range for this position will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are encouraged to apply.

Who You Are
  • University degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Public Administration, Communications, or a related field; graduate degree is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of working relevant experience in Government Relations (advocacy/lobbying) with strong understanding of Canadian public policy and the political, legislative and regulatory systems.
  • Certification from Government Relations/PR/Corporate Communications program, and/or membership in related associations an asset.
  • Policy Analysis & Development with experience in research and ability to analyze emerging issues, assess (business) impacts, and develop solution-oriented recommendations, proposals, and policy statements.
  • Clear and respectful communications.
  • Persuasive and adapts influencing style to targeted audience and outcomes.
  • Agile in adapting to fast-evolving environments.
  • Able to navigate complex, political and sensitive relationships.
