Qualifications

Role Overview

The Manager, Global Sanctions Advisory, supports the success of the Global Sanctions team by executing individual goals, plans, and initiatives aligned with the team’s business strategies. This role ensures compliance with all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide expert advisory services on sanctions compliance to support Scotiabank’s Sanctions Program.
  2. Advise business lines and compliance teams on sanctions laws, policies, and standards, focusing on:
  3. - Payments flagged for sanctions concerns
  4. - Customers with exposure to sanctioned countries
  5. Draft, review, and maintain procedures and logs for the Global Sanctions Office.
  6. Support updates to internal guidance documents.
  7. Review procedures and controls, providing analysis and recommendations.
  8. Handle escalated sanctions hits collaboratively with business units.
  9. Contribute to sanctions training and educational initiatives.
  10. Prepare regulatory reports and support management reporting on sanctions matters.
  11. Participate in audits and regulatory reviews.
  12. Research current sanctions laws and industry best practices.
  13. Build strong partnerships across teams to resolve sanctions issues efficiently.
  14. Promote operational efficiency and consider risk appetite in activities.
Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of experience in sanctions, AML/ATF, law, compliance, or audit within a financial organization.
  • Relevant professional designations (e.g., CAMS, CGSS, CSS).
  • Thorough knowledge of Canadian, U.S., and UN sanctions laws.
  • Understanding of AML/ATF and international sanctions standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and related tools.
  • High integrity, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
