Job Description:

The Manager, Global Compliance Operations is a key contributor to Sun Life’s compliance governance function as well as Sun Life’s policy management program. This role is responsible for supporting the AVP, Global Compliance Operations (GCO) in their mandate. This includes having a strong understanding of the interconnected components of the compliance function in order to coordinate and support the strategic planning activities of the compliance leadership team. The role will also play a pivotal role in the management and maintenance of Sun Life’s Compliance Risk Management Framework (CRMF) and Policy on Policy Governance (PoPG).

The Manager will support the planning, management and tracking of expenses and budgets, group level strategic priorities as well as the ongoing maintenance of the CRMF and PoPG, which enables the enterprise to achieve key objectives and make informed business decisions, while meeting regulatory, Client, and Board expectations. This role is an opportunity for a compliance professional with strong analytical and process design skills to gain exposure to leaders in a cross-enterprise function as well as the workings of the second lines of defence. The manager will lead and coordinate on compliance initiatives while interacting with leaders and subject matter experts.

What will you do?
  • Establish and enhance processes and practices related to compliance policy management as well as governance activities in relation to Sun Life’s Policy on Policy Governance.
  • Support and facilitate the development of the compliance function’s short and medium-term (1-3yrs) plans, working with compliance leaders (AVP+) on tracking priorities and supporting AVP, GCO in expense management activities.
  • Review and provide effective challenge on compliance and risk management related activities, documents (including policies) and reports.
  • Coordinate on integration initiatives across second line of defence functions (risk management and compliance).
  • Draft compliance risk governing documents, presentations and reports.
  • As required, support various initiatives and special projects across the compliance function.
What do you need to succeed?
  • Self-motivated and independent.
  • University education or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in compliance, risk management, finance, governance or other relevant experience in the financial services industry.
  • Knowledge of key regulators and regulatory requirements applicable to financial services across the globe, especially in jurisdictions where Sun Life operates in.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of compliance risk management and their components and linkages.
  • Experience and knowledge of policy governance, policy development and policy management at both enterprise and local levels.
  • Experience with expense management and budget development.
  • Strategic thinker, able see the big picture, and identify opportunities to support the development of strategic plans.
  • Change champion, experienced in organizational and process change management.
  • Excellent written communication skills, able to clearly communicate complex concepts in a simple and effective manner.
  • Strong technology skills - demonstrated ability to adopt and leverage new transformative technologies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to influence stakeholders and ability to navigate a large complex matrixed global organization.
  • Takes responsibility for maintaining and developing knowledge and skills.
  • Analytical thinker with strong conceptual and problem-solving skills.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
