JOB SUMMARY:

As a member of the Portage Power team, the Manager, Generation Engineering and Program Management is responsible for managing a team of project managers and engineers that support the operation of all generation facilities located in Canada and the United States. The Manager, Generation Engineering and Program Management leads the team in developing and administering comprehensive programs related to project development, capital project execution, and capital budgeting. The Manager, Generation Engineering and Program Management’s role with respect to project development involves the day-to-day business development activities, including but not limited to due diligence, permitting, technical advisory services and project management to support early and ongoing stages of investment planning. The Manager, Generation Engineering and Project Management is also responsible for the developing, implementing, and tracking of life-cycle management programs for all generating assets and ensuring regulatory compliance with elements such as US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission annual inspections and licensing programs, as well as dam safety and environmental requirements within Canada. The Manager, Generation Engineering and Program Management is also responsible to develop the multi-year CAPEX budget and support OPEX budgeting activities where required.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise, direct, and manage a staff of Professional Engineers and technical supervisors
  • Contribute to the development of the Portage strategic plan and deliver upon its objectives
  • Provide leadership and development of the engineering team’s technical skills, business acumen and project management expertise
  • Provide structure for the engineering team to guide the operations and maintenance group; including technical support, trouble shooting, testing and inspections as needed to maintain safe and reliable operation
  • Establish and supervise the implementation of all capital projects against multi-year budgets and schedule constraints in concert with internal business partners
  • Evaluate and establish plans and budgets to maximize equipment life and optimize operations to meet safety, availability targets and performance indicators
  • Develop, operate and maintain program and project management methodologies housed within the Portage Project Management Office
  • Foster and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure critical work plan inputs and linkages are understood and maintained
  • Support the growth of the Portage Power brand within the energy sector
  • Provide leadership that fosters a culture of innovation and continuous business improvement
  • Participate in the Emergency Response Organization including after-hours and on-call responsibilities
  • Perform other related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline from an accredited university
  • Professional Engineer licensed in the Province of Ontario or be able to transfer license from similar jurisdiction
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the field of renewable energy or utilities including operations, project and program delivery
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience, formal training, and demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
  • Experience which demonstrates advanced knowledge of project controls, project reporting, scheduling, estimation and financial forecasting
  • Experience in development and standardization of key performance indicators and enterprise reporting
  • Team leadership experience
  • General awareness of ISO 55000 standard and its implementation
  • Strong computer skills; proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably G Suite
  • English essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Driver’s license – Class G
  • Ability to obtain work visa for United States

This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
