MANAGER, FINANCE

Toronto / Full-Time, Permanent

This role involves remote/work-from-home arrangements with a requirement for a minimum of two (2) days per week working onsite and may be subject to change as the organization works through its hybrid workforce plan and/or changing needs of the Foundation. The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is Canada’s largest mental health teaching hospital and one of the world’s leading research centres in its field. With a dedicated staff of more than 5,000 physicians, clinicians, researchers, educators, and support staff, CAMH offers outstanding clinical care to more than 38,000 patients each year. The organization conducts ground‑breaking research, provides expert training to healthcare professionals and scientists, develops innovative health promotion and prevention strategies, and advocates on public policy issues at all levels of government.

CAMH Foundation is charged with raising and stewarding funds in support of CAMH. Its role is to help transform the way we understand and address mental illness by raising awareness and increasing engagement across the country. The Finance Team is responsible for the processing of donations and expenses, grant management, regulatory compliance, managing investments, establishing policies, procedures and controls to ensure timely and accurate reporting of the financial results. THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Manager, Finance provides high level accounting support to CAMHF, ensuring accuracy of accounts and financial reporting, building and sustaining the financial capacity of CAMHF to drive sustainable growth that supports achievement of ambitious goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Accounting
  • Be responsible for the integrity of the accounting system by ensuring that accounting transactions are correctly posted and financial and management reports are produced on a timely basis.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders during the planning and implementation phases of new platforms and system improvements.
  • Manage the month end and year‑end closing processes.
  • Oversee gift processing operations and ensure compliance with CRA regulations, accounting standards, and organizational policies.
  • Manage the accounts payable process such as approving invoices, checking that the correct process was followed and that the correct accounts and appeals were used.
  • Liaise with the bank, daily online checking of the bank accounts, as well as, manage the external accounts linked to our operating bank account.
  • Process EFT, wire and bank transfers.
  • Support the Director, Finance in the Foundation’s cash management process.
  • Review any CAMH grant receivable payments and approve for release by ensuring proper cash flow cycle to the hospital, including CAMHF monthly Operating Expenses.
  • Assist with financial reporting to CAMH, liaise with CAMH Finance to help reconcile CAMH receivable to CAMHF payable.
  • Ensure key processes are documented and updated as changes occur.
  • Support the Director, Finance with the Procurement Process.
  • Complete quarterly HST return.
  • Prepare and/or review financial reports and analysis, as required.
  • Provide financial reports to various stakeholders as required.
  • Support the development, review, and updating of finance policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Director, Finance with preparation of year‑end audit working papers, financial statements and other year‑end audit procedures as required.
  • Advise and update Director, Finance on any irregularities or concerns around financial matters.
  • Ensure integrity and maintenance of the computerized financial accounting system.
  • Process monthly payroll transactions and perform reconciliation of the payroll report.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and reporting efficiency.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Management
  • Oversee a team of 6. Provide leadership and coaching to the team.
  • Schedule weekly check in meetings with staff. Provide support in resolving issues in a timely manner.
  • Complete a mid‑year and end of year review for each staff; giving helpful feedback and helping the team accomplish any professional development goals, as well as, foundation goals
  • Develop and maintain managing skills
  • Knowledge of applicable employment legislation
  • Time sheet approval and other electronic status changes
Foundation Team
  • Work as a team player promoting a positive and professional work environment and conduct role with integrity and respect.
  • Meet with all new staff regarding the policies and procedures for expenses to be submitted to Finance.
  • Act as an Ambassador throughout the Community, positively representing the Hospital and the Foundation.
  • Abide by the policies and procedures of CAMH and CAMHF.
  • Maintain donor and CAMHF confidentiality and privacy at all times.
  • Abide by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and work in a manner that is safe, reporting incidents immediately to direct supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in order to meet the overall goals and objectives of the Foundation.
  • Operate within the culture and core values of the organization.
  • Maintain knowledge and expertise in relevant fields.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE TEAM
  • University degree and recognized professional accounting designation (CPA) or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial accounting, at least 2 years of which should be in the not‑for‑profit sector, preferably in the healthcare sector. Experience in a management role is desirable.
  • Proficient in the use of all corporate productivity tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Raiser’s Edge or similar donor database management systems, Financial Edge or similar accounting systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple and changing demands.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization / members of the public, customer/donor focused.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently using an above average level of initiative, highly organized; takes initiative / self starter; detailed oriented.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work effectively on a variety of priority projects with competing deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.

Salary Range: $95,203.84 to $109,764.43, annually
