Job summary

Cambridge Memorial Hospital is seeking a Director of Finance to lead the hospital's financial operations and strategic planning. Reporting to the VP Corporate Services & CFO, this role drives budgeting, forecasting, and governance across finance, treasury and internal controls.

The ideal candidate brings senior leadership experience in a hospital setting, deep regulatory knowledge, and a proven track record of aligning financial strategy with clinical and operational priorities.

Qualifications

  • Senior leadership experience in a publicly funded hospital or large complex organization.
  • Experience leading budgeting, forecasting, audit, and financial reporting functions.
  • Ability to present financial information to senior leadership and/or Board Committees.
  • Strategic thinking with strong business and financial acumen while maintaining operational excellence.

Responsibilities

As healthcare funding models evolve and system pressures increase, CMH is seeking a strategic and forward-thinking Director, Finance to play a critical leadership role in ensuring the organization’s long-term financial sustainability and operational excellence. This is a high-impact opportunity to serve as a trusted financial advisor to the Executive Team and Board Committees while leading a dedicated finance team in delivering robust financial stewardship in a complex healthcare environment

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Services & Chief Financial Officer the Director, Finance provides enterprise-wide leadership and oversight of the hospital’s financial operations, planning, reporting, treasury, and internal control environment.

Working at the intersection of finance, operations, and strategy, the Director will help guide the organization through evolving funding models, growth opportunities, capital investments, and system transformation initiatives.

The Director is responsible for advancing financial strategy, strengthening fiscal stewardship, optimizing funding opportunities, and ensuring regulatory compliance, while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. As a key leader, the Director partners closely with clinical and operational leaders to align financial planning with organizational priorities. This role extends far beyond traditional financial oversight.

The Director is a trusted advisor and business partner who helps shape organizational strategy, supports critical decision-making, identifies opportunities for innovation and efficiency, and ensures CMH remains well-positioned to thrive in an increasingly complex healthcare environment.

As Director, Finance, you will drive strategic decision-making through:

  • Providing financial leadership and insight to the Executive Team, Directors' Council, and Board Committees, ensuring leaders have the information and analysis needed to make confident, informed decisions.
  • Leading long-range financial planning, capital planning, and sustainability strategies that support CMH's vision for growth and excellence.
  • Navigating evolving provincial funding models and healthcare priorities while identifying opportunities to optimize resources and strengthen organizational performance.
  • Developing and mentoring an engaged, talented finance team while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Collaborating closely with clinical and operational leaders, the CMH Foundation, and community partners to support strategic initiatives, business cases, capital investments, and service enhancements.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
  • A senior leader with passion for healthcare and community impact.
  • Strong experience in hospitals with a minimum of 7–10 years of progressive financial experience navigating complexity and driving meaningful change.
  • Experience working within a publicly funded environment and familiarity with Ministry of Health reporting requirements.
  • Proven success leading budgeting, forecasting, audit, and financial reporting functions.
  • Experience presenting financial information to senior leadership and/or Board Committees.
  • The ability to think strategically with strong business and financial acumen while maintaining operational excellence.
  • Strong relationship-building and influencing skills and a collaborative leadership style that inspires confidence and trust and an ability to engage across disciplines.
  • Clear, confident communicator capable of translating complex financial information for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to lead effectively in a dynamic and evolving healthcare environment and a commitment to developing people and building high-performing teams.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of MIS guidelines, systems implementations, financial systems, financial modelling and advanced spreadsheet applications.
  • Familiarity with procurement practices and the Broader Public Sector Procurement Directive is an asset.
  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Business, Finance, or related field.
