About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Manager, Field Logistics to join our dynamic Supply Chain Operations West team.

This role requires the incumbent to have strong leadership skills, focused on creating a collaborative team environment and managing effectively in a rapidly changing environment. Providing excellent customer service through proactive engagement to assess needs of both key internal and external stakeholders is a critical dimension of this role. The manager is accountable to deliver the logistics mandate within a highly dynamic environment that includes leading a team, supporting permanent collections sites and mobile collection venues, distribution to hospitals and oversight of warehousing activities in Alberta.

Formula for success

  • Leveraging your field logistics skills;plan, develop and implement operational support in the areas of transportation for movement of staff, donors, equipment, supplies and materials associated with clinic collections activities.
  • Using your expertise in warehousing;ensuretimely preparation, delivery and set-up of clinic kits for mobile clinic events and meet requirements of internal customers at various location.
  • Utilizing your skillsin fleet management and operations;managetransportation supplies, removal and disposal of biomedical wastes and shipping and deliveries of blood products to hospitals.
  • Relying on your project management experience;overseelogistics initiatives and projects undertaken nationally and by the Alberta & Saskatchewan regions deliver to planned outcomes and according to required timelines.
  • Harnessing your leadership capabilities;lead, directand guideregional logistics personnel. Communicate, prepareand managethe budgetary process for the regionanl field logistics operations.
  • Using a continuous improvement approach;actively participatein the implementation of improvements to provide efficient and cost effective supply chain management and improved service to internal and external customers.
  • Leveraging your understanding of performance management;collect and report accurate and timely key performance indicators for regional field logistics functions.

Desired education and skills

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably an undergraduate degree in Business Administration.
  • Minimum of eight years of related experience in field logistics areas of fleet management and operation, distribution, warehousing and inventory control.
  • Minimum of five years of supervisory experience in a unionized environment.
  • Understanding of, and experience in, a regulated environment.
  • Strong leadership abilities focused on driving accountability and creating a collaborative environment, recognizing the value of team member inputs to processes and ability to establish consensus.
  • A strong commitment to operating within a team environment and establishing alignment while demonstrating the necessary skills to manage effectively in a rapidly changing environment with a focus on customer service.
  • Strong analytical abilities coupled with effective problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Proficiency using computers is required. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and a good working knowledge of SAP or other ERP financial, purchasing and warehouse management modules is preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, client focused thinking and ability to work with management at all levels.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable legislation, including Provincial Highway Traffic Acts, Motor Vehicle Acts, Dangerous Goods Act, Provincial Environment Acts.
  • Ability to prepare, recommend and manage budgets, and provide clear and well supported analysis.
  • Ability to create, introduce or promote new ideas to improve logistics functions.
