Red Deer Polytechnic seeks a Manager, Facility & Campus Space Planning Management to lead strategic space planning, governance, and utilization across the campus. You will translate enrolment growth, program delivery, and accessibility needs into actionable space plans and budgeting analyses.

You will lead a cross-disciplinary team, develop standards, governance processes, and reporting to enable data-informed decisions and efficient space use aligned with RDP’s 2030 Strategy.

Qualifications

  • Two years of post-secondary training in related fields.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in facility/space planning and related services.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience supervising staff or project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and oversight to the Facility Space Planning team, including Project Managers, ensuring effective workload allocation, performance management, and professional development.
  • Establishes service delivery standards, planning frameworks, templates, and quality assurance processes.
  • Oversees team outputs to ensure alignment with institutional standards, accessibility requirements, and governance practices.
  • Aligns team priorities with institutional needs and escalates resource or policy challenges with recommendations.
  • Leads institutional space governance processes, including intake, prioritization, and decision frameworks.
  • Oversees management and analysis of space inventory, utilization, occupancy, and room data.
  • Develops evidence-based recommendations to optimize campus space across academic, administrative, and service functions.
  • Facilitates institutional planning discussions and supports master planning and program growth initiatives.

Position Title Manager, Facility & Campus Space Planning Management

Position Summary

The Facility & Campus Space Planning Manager is responsible for leading Red Deer Polytechnic’s institutional space planning, governance, and utilization functions. The role ensures campus space is strategically planned, allocated, and optimized to support academic programming, research, student services, and administrative operations.

Reporting to the Director, Campus Management, the Lead provides leadership to the Facility Space Planning team and is accountable for establishing space standards, governance processes, and planning frameworks that support transparent, data-informed decision-making. The position translates institutional priorities—including enrolment growth, program delivery, and accessibility requirements—into actionable space planning strategies, recommendations, and implementation plans.

This role requires a highly analytical and strategic leader with strong people leadership, stakeholder engagement, and planning expertise. The Manager plays a key role in enabling efficient use of institutional space and will play a key role in enhancing RDP’s Campus Management capacity and supporting the institution’s commitment the outcomes of RDP’s 2030 Strategic Plan.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and oversight to the Facility Space Planning team, including Project Managers, ensuring effective workload allocation, performance management, and professional development
  • Establishes service delivery standards, planning frameworks, templates, and quality assurance processes
  • Oversees team outputs to ensure alignment with institutional standards, accessibility requirements, and governance practices
  • Aligns team priorities with institutional needs and escalates resource or policy challenges with recommendations
  • Leads institutional space governance processes, including intake, prioritization, and decision frameworks
  • Oversees management and analysis of space inventory, utilization, occupancy, and room data
  • Develops evidence-based recommendations to optimize campus space across academic, administrative, and service functions
  • Facilitates institutional planning discussions and supports master planning and program growth initiatives
  • Establishes and maintains space standards, data governance practices, and reporting frameworks
FF&E, Signage, Wayfinding & Move Management
  • Leads institutional standards and planning for furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E), including lifecycle, accessibility, and sustainability considerations
  • Oversees coordination of non-structural moves, installations, and space reconfigurations
  • Ensures alignment of signage and wayfinding with institutional standards, accessibility requirements, and brand guidelines
  • Coordinates procurement planning and vendor activities within delegated authority
  • Ensures appropriate escalation of construction or infrastructure-related requirements
Space Planning Projects & Stakeholder Engagement/Facilitation
  • Leads planning initiatives such as departmental space reviews, fit studies, and reconfiguration projects
  • Defines requirements, risks, assumptions, and implementation strategies for planning initiatives
  • Prepares conceptual budgets and schedules in collaboration with internal partners
  • Facilitates stakeholder decision-making and ensures alignment with institutional priorities
  • Conducts post-implementation reviews to assess effectiveness
Space Records, Planning Graphics, & Internal/Government Reporting
  • Oversees the accuracy and integrity of space inventory, occupancy, and utilization data
  • Prepares reports and planning materials for internal leadership and external reporting requirements
  • Develops planning graphics, layouts, and documentation to support decision-making
  • Ensures strong data governance, version control, and record management practices
Continuous Improvement & Professional Practice
  • Identifies and implements improvements to space planning processes, tools, and standards
  • Monitors trends in post-secondary space utilization and planning practices
  • Contributes insight and analysis to support institutional strategy and long-term planning
  • Participates in professional development and cross-functional initiatives
Required Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of post-secondary training, in Interior Design Technology, Architectural Technology, Facility Planning, Planning Technology or equivalent required
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in facility space planning, campus planning, workplace planning, space inventory, FF&E planning, move coordination or related service delivery
  • 3+ years of leadership experience, including supervision of professional staff or project teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) year undergraduate degree, three years of university or equivalency in Interior Design, Planning, Facilities Management, Project Management or equivalent considered an asset
  • PMP is considered an asset
  • Registered Professional Planner is considered an asset
  • Interior Design designation is considered an asset
  • APPA / SCUP space planning training is considered an asset
  • Experience with post-secondary or complex multi-stakeholder environments preferred
  • Knowledge of FF&E standards, procurement planning for furniture and related services, signage/wayfinding principles and digital/physical navigation tools
  • Experience preparing planning graphics, test-fits, move plans, space allocation records and reports using planning, drawing, spreadsheet and collaboration tools
  • Experience coaching and mentoring staff
  • Experience with post-secondary administration and accounting systems (Banner) an asset
Salary or Hourly?

Salary $94,625 - $115,019
