Job summary

Akamai's Platform IAM team, part of the Cloud Technology Group, leads enterprise IAM features and tools for customer configurations. You will balance technical oversight with people management, coaching engineers, clarifying requirements, and aligning with product and SRE partners.

As Engineering Manager, you’ll guide delivery across the full lifecycle, mentor teams, and shape technical direction while fostering inclusive high-performing engineering culture.

Qualifications

• 8 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Solid knowledge of back-end technologies, including Python.
• Experience with large, low-latency distributed systems.
• Experience with IAM concepts and platforms.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

The Akamai Platform IAM team is part of Akamai's Cloud Technology Group. We design and operate customer-facing platforms enabling customers to configure and control their cloud assets. This team owns the IAM tool sets for Akamai's customers using the Cloud Manager website. We ensure customers have what they need to configure users for quality, safety, and performance.

You will join a global team and lead a team of engineers responsible for delivering high-quality IAM features and tools. You'll balance technical oversight with people management, coaching engineers, clarifying requirements, driving execution, and ensuring alignment with product and SRE partners. While you will bring engineering expertise, your role will focus on leadership, mentorship, and technical direction over hands-on development.

As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for:

• Managing, mentoring, and developing a team of engineers proficient in enterprise IAM concepts
• Providing technical guidance and setting best practices for back-end architecture and development
• Providing technical guidance and setting best practices for back-end architecture and development
• Partnering with product management, QA, SRE, Senior Leadership, and other engineering teams to deliver cohesive user experiences
• Having oversight of delivery across the full project lifecycle: organizing, planning, development, testing, and release
• Driving consistency through tooling and engineering standards
• Supporting hiring, onboarding, performance feedback, and career growth for team members

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have 8 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Demonstrate solid knowledge of back-end technologies including Python
• Demonstrate solid understanding and experience with large, low-latency, and highly-available distributed systems
• Have experience with IAM concepts and platforms
• Possess a clear understanding of Software Development Life Cycle and Agile planning
• Have prior leadership experience and excellent communication skills and a passion for building inclusive, high-performing engineering teams

Compensation

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary for this position ranges from 129,400 - 232,800 CAD/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
