About The Role
The Manager, Engagement is responsible for leading the development and execution of strategic engagement plans for large-scale projects, including communications plans for specific stakeholder groups. This role requires advanced understanding in stakeholder engagement and communications planning. As the Manager, Engagement, you will oversee a team of Engagement Leads, ensuring community engagement initiatives are well-planned, executed effectively, and aligned with both organizational objectives and community priorities. You will work closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of these strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Key elements of this role include:
- Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive engagement and communications plans for high-profile, large-scale projects, ensuring alignment with project goals and organizational objectives.
- Provide strategic guidance and oversight to a small team, ensuring engagement activities are executed with clarity, consistency, and timeliness. Engage with project senior leadership regularly, offering insights and recommendations on engagement activities to keep leadership informed on stakeholder priorities and emerging issues.
- Provide guidance in crafting messaging, content, and engagement strategies tailored to various stakeholder groups, including community members and key project partners and corporate communications.
- Ensure communications plans address the full engagement lifecycle, from initial outreach to post-project reporting.
- Support the development of key messaging, including community updates, reports, and presentations, ensuring alignment with the brand.
- Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of engagement activities, adjusting strategies as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring proactive and transparent communication throughout all project phases, in coordination with other key project leads.
- Develop, review, and approve engagement materials such as speaking remarks, briefing documents, presentations, and reports.
- Track engagement metrics, providing regular updates to senior management and relevant project stakeholders.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with departments such as Corporate Communications and Mi’kmaq Relations to ensure cohesive and integrated engagement efforts.
Qualifications
These skills will make you successful:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Relations, Political Science, Communications, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5-7 years of professional experience in communications, community engagement, or a related field, with proven expertise in strategic communications planning and execution.
- Experience managing and mentoring teams and guiding them in the execution of complex engagement and communication strategies.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate challenges and develop proactive solutions.
- Experience working closely with senior leadership, including reporting on communications activities and outcomes.
- Extensive experience in developing and executing detailed engagement and communications plans.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences and mediums.
- Strong understanding of community engagement principles and how they integrate with communications strategies.
- Experience with project management tools and timelines, and ability to manage deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
- Skilled at navigating complex stakeholder dynamics, including handling sensitive and high-stakes communications.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in public sector communications and/or with large infrastructure projects.
- Background in public affairs, public relations, or a similar agency/consultancy environment is considered a strong asset.
- Proficient in communications tools, content management systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Certification from the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) is preferred.
