Salary range for the position is $106,026 to 152,413. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

How will you make an impact?

The Manager, Employee Experience and Retention oversees the development, measurement, and sustainment of IH’s employee experience and retention objectives within the Human Resources and Professional Practice (HRPP) portfolio. Working in partnership with corporate and clinical leaders, the Manager is responsible for providing operational and strategic leadership on activities in support of creating a welcoming workplace for employees, including those focused on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI); accessibility, Indigenous employee experience; employee recognition; and the ongoing Employee Retention Strategy. The Manager is responsible for all aspects of planning, organizing and directing staff and activities in these areas, including representing IH when engaging with partner organizations and communities.

The Manager works with internal partners to capture and report on metrics and shared stories of employees’ perspectives on their workplace culture, their sense of workplace inclusion and belonging, their levels of engagement, and their sense of workplace safety, including cultural and psychological safety. The Manager is accountable for effectively addressing employee experience and retention issues that cross programs, portfolios, and geographic lines by implementing strategies, initiatives, and programs that support employee engagement, people-focused organizational development, and collaborative change processes as well as quality improvement activities related to DEI, accessibility and employee recognition.

What will you work on?

  • Leads the planning, implementation and completion of IH-wide HR policies, strategies, and procedures that are aligned with HR best practices and related to employee experience and retention.
  • Works with partners to understand the employee experience journey from candidacy to retirement, including identifying the instruments/tools needed to gather critical data and intelligence, turning that information into actionable insights, and supporting leaders across IH to continually improve that experience – with and for our people.
  • Provides direction and creates and implements plans, program and initiatives focused on DEI, accessibility, Indigenous employee experience, recognition, and retention.
  • Enables adherence to provincial and national standards and guidelines, while advancing DEI and accessibility efforts through idea generation, planning, design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Stays informed about industry best practices in global research trends, data insights, and approaches to design programs that enable an equitable and inclusive employee lifecycle, with a focus on employee well-being, career development, engagement, and retention.
  • Gathers and uses employee feedback to proactively identify gaps, propose solutions, and implement changes with a focus on improving retention and engagement. Works with operations to understand experience and create the pre-conditions for change necessary to significantly increase retention amongst leadership and staff.
  • Builds a performance management and talent review strategy to establish meaningful succession plans to grow diverse talent pipelines.
  • Establishes and implements meaningful HR metrics and reports for a range of audiences. Support our data-journey, developing capacity and approaches to organize and mobilize our data in support of strategic HR programs, which will drive positive change within the organization.
  • Recommends and develops standardized policies, processes, and procedures in all areas supporting employee experience and retention efforts that are in alignment with industry trends and best practices. Reviews existing and drafts new organizational policy and related guidelines to support improvements to the overall employee experience. Develops related briefing notes and presentations to support senior leadership decision making. Guides implementation of approved policy, including developing related implementation and communication plans and employee-focused education.
  • Partners with colleagues in HR and other operational partners to design, develop and integrate key employee experience solutions into recruitment and leadership development processes, in order to attract, develop and retain the best talent.
  • Partners with peers and senior leaders to create a framework to proactively address current and future DEI and accessibility needs, by analyzing current workforce data, employee engagement surveys, and external research, to support the organization’s current and future objectives.
  • Acts as a resource to IH’s leadership, providing coaching, mentoring, subject matter expertise, and providing recommendations on specific questions or issues that arise for embedding DEI and accessibility throughout the continuum of services in IH.
  • Participates in and/or leads committees and working groups to advance cross-departmental strategic initiatives, specifically related to employee experience and retention. Enables quality, accuracy and comprehensiveness of advice and recommendations.
  • Leads community engagement initiatives to enable collection of feedback in support of IH’s commitment to advance DEI and accessibility. Supports HR manager colleagues in the re-imagination of the future by discovering and framing trends in employee-named opportunities for workplace improvement. Plans and supports design of research activities to define current-state employee experiences and to map out ideal future experiences to improve retention.
  • Keeps employee needs and motivations at the forefront for HR partners and program designers. Works closely with other teams in HR to help them apply human-centred design concepts and contribute to an employee experience mindset.
  • Recruits, hires, supervises, and provides leadership to staff through coaching, guiding, and modeling key behaviours/strategies, encouraging dialogue, and providing guidance and advice to facilitate resolutions to work issues. Assists team members in defining shared and individual goals, meeting target dates, and ensuring alignment of team goals with customer needs. Fosters team spirit, trust, and mutual respect.
  • Responsible for developing and recommending a budget; monitoring expenditures; variance analysis; and reporting, recommending, and implementing remedial action.
  • In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations and implementing required corrective actions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
