The Manager, Employee Benefits and Retirement will oversee the administration and management of Canadian employee benefits, wellness and pension plans, including union-specific programs. This role involves ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, optimizing benefit programs, and providing support to employees regarding their benefits and retirements inquiries. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Total Rewards & Analytics, this role will lead a team of professional benefit and pension advisors.

You’re a subject matter expert in the field of benefits, wellness programs and retirement (pensions), a proficient communicator and an engaged team player. Also, your superb client-focused mindset will come in handy when working with Canfor leadership, HR business partners, union leaders, benefit and pension consultants and vendors.

A day in the life of the Manager, Employee Benefits & Retirement includes:

  • Responsible for managing the benefit and pension programs and developing program proposals that align with Canfor’s Global Benefits & Pension Strategy.
  • Lead annual benefit renewals in collaboration with stakeholders, brokers, and vendors.
  • Ensure benefit plans and adjudication processes are administered according to plan provisions and guidelines.
  • Participate in benefits surveys and conduct regular market analysis to maintain competitive benefits while managing costs and ensuring sustainability.
  • Oversee the administration of all Canadian pension plans, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, collection agreements and company policies.
  • Collaborate with actuaries to ensure the financial health of Canfor’s pension plans.
  • Assess impact of regulatory changes on benefit & pensions programs and recommend/implement any necessary modifications.
  • Oversee the administration of the Global employee family assistance program (EFAP)
  • Develop operational procedures and workflow to improve efficiency and productivity with the Total Rewards team.

For this role, you’ll come equipped with:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in benefits and pension administration.
  • Experience in vendor management and contract negotiation.
  • Strong knowledge of benefits and pension regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience in supporting both DB & DC pension programs
  • Experience supporting benefit and pension programs in a unionized environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in HRIS and benefits administration software (e.g. SuccessFactors).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

The salary range for this position is: $108,000.00-$145,000
