General Accountabilities:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Emergency Management and Business Continuity, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting:

  • Business Continuity Strategy: Create and implement business continuity strategies to minimize disruption and ensure the utility can continue to operate during and after emergencies
  • Emergency Response Planning: Develop and maintain comprehensive emergency response plans to address various potential crises, ensuring the safety of employees and the continuity of operations
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities, and develop mitigation strategies to address them
  • Training and Drills: Organize and conduct regular training sessions and emergency drills for employees to ensure they are prepared to respond effectively in an emergency
  • Incident Management: Support incident management during emergencies, coordinating response efforts and making critical decisions to manage the situation
  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, and prepare reports on emergency management and business continuity activities for internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, government agencies, and external partners to coordinate emergency response and business continuity efforts
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and update emergency management and business continuity plans based on lessons learned from drills and actual incidents

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Provide lines of business with expert advice and guidance in the identification and management of risks to business continuity.
  • Assist with the coordination and direction for Hydro One's emergency management and business continuity programs.
  • Liaise with external agencies/stakeholders and communities served by Hydro One.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of companywide emergency management and business continuity plans and contingency planning.
  • Monitor, track, test, and report on the status of the programs, partnering with lines of business to mature the overall program and creating training and presentation material.
  • Review actual contingency situations, identifying improvement opportunities to prevent or mitigate future occurrences.

Managerial Accountabilities:

  • Provide team leadership to the lines of business representatives by ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of products to fulfill market rules, regulatory compliance and due diligence requirements for emergency management and business continuity.

Selection Criteria:

  • Requires a detailed knowledge of emergency preparedness & business continuity management, hazard vulnerability and risk assessment to implement and manage emergency preparedness activities and participate in companywide emergency preparedness planning
  • Requires knowledge and experience working with municipal governments, provincial emergency management and federal government ministries
  • Requires detailed knowledge and experience in emergency preparedness and business continuity principles and protection of critical infrastructure as it relates to the transmission and distribution business, cyber security and supporting services
  • Requires demonstrated experience in operational emergency response and including development and execution of emergency drills and exercises
  • Requires an in-depth knowledge of regulatory and market rule requirements specifically for Power System Reliability pertaining to emergency preparedness, emergency response and Power System Restoration
  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of 4 years of university with specialized training/courses in emergency and disaster management, incident management or through experiential knowledge gained by participating in the company’s emergency response organization
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities
  • Requires good interpersonal skills
  • Requires professional level oral and written communication skills, and demonstrated experience in developing contingency plans and procedures
  • Good interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will work in a team environment
  • Experience with Excel. Knowledge and understanding of databases will be an asset
  • Experience in providing training and making presentations will be an asset
