DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Durham College seeks a proven leader to lead its team of dynamic professionals in the Office of Campus Safety. Reporting to the Director, Campus Safety, the Manager of Emergency Management will be responsible for the overall planning and development of the College emergency management and recovery framework, in keeping with industry standards that advance prevention, mitigation, response and recovery elements of emergency management. Within this context, the position, in close coordination with College committee structures, is responsible for the development and implementation of the College emergency management plan and supporting infrastructure as well as the coordination of supporting departmental response plans.

The incumbent provides guidance and input in College departments and process related to the development of prevention and mitigation measures and actively contributes to business continuity planning processes. The position plays an active role with the Emergency Management Response Team (EMRT), the emergency operations centre (EOC), and the Emergency Mass Communication Tool (EMCT) with respect to response to campus emergencies.

In addition, the Manager, Emergency Management plans, develops, and implements training, awareness and exercise activities at all levels within the College community to continually improve corporate, student and staff preparedness.

The Manager, Emergency Management is responsible for the oversight and operation of the Campus Emergency Response Team (CERT). The incumbent will develop procedures and documentation in support of the CERT framework. The manager will provide guidance for a team of volunteers, and support ongoing training and development for the CERT team.

Please note, this position services both Durham College and Ontario Tech University.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • A minimum of a 4-year undergraduate degree in Emergency Management or a related field; a Master’s degree would be considered an asset.
  • A minimum of 5-years of related experience in a planning and policy role with similar organizational scope, previous specialized service in emergency response / emergency management, and experience managing complex objectives with multi-disciplinary components. Additional certifications or training in business continuity planning, risk management, emergency planning, emergency preparedness and / or first responder would be considered assets to this role.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in all matters related to students, staffing and programming.
  • The ideal candidate will understand Emergency Management principles consistent with municipal, provincial and federal standards.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills, the incumbent shall possess demonstrated tact, diplomacy and the ability to work effectively in crisis situations. Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communications skills, and a proven ability to work well with clients and colleagues are essential.
  • Experience with Alertus systems is an asset. Experience in the education sector is also considered an asset. Experience in emergency medical services is an asset.
  • The incumbent is required to work on campus with on-call availability required.
