The opportunity

As a Manager, you will be a professional member of our Financial Accounting Advisory Services (FAAS) team. We combine technical accounting skills in IFRS, Canadian and US GAAP, practical experience in financial reporting processes and Internal Controls over Financial Reporting, as well as deep sector and regulatory knowledge to deliver world-class service to our clients.

Your key responsibilities

  • Help finance leaders address challenges and ongoing changes facing their business and manage repercussions on the accounting and finance function.
  • Partner with clients to achieve their potential in acquisitions, divestitures, IPOs, GAAP conversions, optimization/restructuring, accounting standards policy implementation and convergence.
  • Work with clients to remediate material weaknesses or significant deficiencies in their control framework and assist with the design and implementation of internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Create innovative commercial insights for clients and drive improvements in business processes.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Technical accounting experience in IFRS and US GAAP along with multiple years of audit experience at a top accounting firm.
  • Plan, manage and participate in various engagements, including researching application of accounting standards to various transactions and developing tailored training.
  • Experience auditing clients who comply with NI 52-109 and/or SOX 404 regulatory requirements.
  • Client-facing experience in assessing control failures and determining whether those failures result in material weaknesses or significant deficiencies.
  • Understanding of IT general controls and entity level controls.
  • Supervise engagement teams including delegation and review of work performed.
  • Conduct timely performance reviews and provide feedback and coaching.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with client management.
  • Stay informed of changing market conditions and new regulatory developments.
  • Develop people by encouraging individuals to think for themselves and take responsibility for their contributions to the team.
  • Use technology to continually learn and enhance service delivery.
  • Prepare proposals and realize business development plans through a strong professional network.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • A Canadian CPA designation (or an equivalent international qualification), and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Audit or business experience in the application of accounting standards, including IFRS.
  • Experience in financial statement close and the application of Internal Controls over Financial Reporting, with preference for SOX 404 or NI 52-109 compliance.
  • Impeccable client relationship skills.
  • A dedication to teamwork and leadership.
  • The ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic team-oriented environment.
