Responsibilities

  • Maintain the integrity and maintenance of Hydro Ottawa’s GIS data and governance frameworks.
  • Lead connection impact assessments, load assessments, and DER capacity evaluations for new loads.
  • Guide engineering staff through system performance analyses and root-cause investigations.
  • Oversee engineering processes for short-circuit calculations, protection coordination, and load flow models.
  • Develop and manage the department's annual budget and mentor Engineer Interns.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Distribution Engineering & Asset Management, the Manager, Distribution Engineering & Asset Information leads the near‑to‑mid‑term engineering performance, customer connection execution, and foundational data integrity of Hydro Ottawa’s distribution system. The role serves as the primary custodian of Hydro Ottawa’s Geographic Information System (GIS) data, integrating advanced engineering analytics—such as Distributed Energy Resources (DER) integration, connection impact assessments, and power quality analytics—with robust GIS asset records and data governance. The Manager operationally partners with the long‑term planning team, translating day‑to‑day distribution system dynamics and asset data into validated baseline models that fuel Hydro Ottawa’s strategic investment plans.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary team of supervisors, professional engineers, and technical specialists, establishing departmental goals, optimizing workload distribution, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Hold accountability for the integrity and maintenance of Hydro Ottawa’s GIS data, governing record‑management frameworks, GIS/CAD documentation standards, and network connectivity models.
  • Spearhead the execution of Connection Impact Assessments, load assessments, and localized capacity evaluations for new customer loads and DERs.
  • Guide technical staff through system performance analysis and root‑cause investigations, ensuring findings are translated into actionable grid improvements.
  • Govern the engineering processes utilized for short‑circuit calculations, protection coordination, and load flow models.
  • Oversee validated engineering data, reliability risk assessments, and short‑circuit models that support the long‑term development, defense, and maintenance of the Distribution System Plan and Ontario Energy Board regulatory filings.
  • Apply the corporate Value Framework and scoring methodologies to prioritize localized, reliability‑driven capital projects based on their capacity to enable immediate growth and mitigate system risks.
  • Develop, defend, and strategically manage the department’s annual operational and maintenance budget, optimizing resource allocation across engineering analysis and technical GIS records workflows.
  • Champion the Engineering Development Program within the department, actively guiding the mentorship, technical progression, and professional licensure of Engineer Interns.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison and escalation point for external developers, electrical contractors, and cross‑functional working groups to align customer interconnection timelines with Hydro Ottawa’s capacity limits.
  • Actively participate in the company’s Business Continuity Plan, On‑Call programs, and the Electricity Emergency Response Program.
  • Formulate and deliver comprehensive technical presentations and engineering reports to departmental decision‑makers, senior leadership, and diverse external stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional Engineer licensed in the Province of Ontario.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Experience in an electric utility engineering environment considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of ISO55000 Asset Management considered an asset.
  • Strong computer skills; proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably Google Workspace.
  • English essential, both oral and written.
  • Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset.

Salary & Benefits
  • Hybrid Work Model – position specific; details will be discussed with successful candidates.
  • Annual salary range: Minimum $107,281.34 – Maximum $156,908.00 (dependent on experience, education, and professional designation).
