Position Overview

The Manager, Design & Planning manages the design and planning phases of designated projects. This role leads all aspects of the project up to construction, including project design, planning, scheduling, resource allocation, budget management, technical direction, and vendor management. The manager ensures high standards of quality and compliance through close monitoring. This is a maternity leave contract estimated to last 12-15 months.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Coordinate with the Director, Store Design & Planning to deliver programs focused on all project aspects up to construction, including design, planning, scheduling, resource and budget management, technical direction, and vendor relations.
  2. Finalize building designs, identify requirements, and define the scope of renovations for tendering.
  3. Manage project design and construction elements to mitigate disputes and claims, recommending solutions as needed.
  4. Maintain up-to-date store footprints, including engineer-designed performance standards and product innovations.
  5. Ensure compliance with municipal, regional, and provincial building maintenance requirements, including waste, fire codes, and safety standards.
  6. Develop and manage design schedules and approval meetings, ensuring effective communication and achievement of results.
  7. Lead analytics to support target-setting, payroll management, and operational audits.
  8. Create Creative Briefs and support the development of project business cases and Appropriation Funding Estimates (AFE).
  9. Design in-house relays and upgrades for minor renovations; oversee design for large-scale projects.
  10. Prioritize projects and initiatives, monitor progress, develop launch materials, and track results.
  11. Build and maintain internal and external relationships to foster a productive environment.
  12. Coordinate efforts between architects, interior designers, consultants, and vendors.
  13. Collaborate with internal teams (strategy, sales, marketing, IT) and external partners to develop designs that support company strategy.
  14. Champion specific projects to ensure successful delivery.
  15. Manage expenses within budget and meet financial targets.
  16. Lead, motivate, and retain a high-performing team capable of delivering results.
Candidate Profile
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field.
  • 5-7 years of post-university experience, including 2-3+ years in leadership roles.
  • Proven leadership and influencing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and organizational skills.
  • Adaptable to change and ambiguity.
  • Service-oriented with strong follow-up skills.
  • Willingness to travel significantly.
  • Advanced AutoCAD/Revit skills.
  • Passion for fashion and luxury retailing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
