Job description

At AstraZeneca, we pride ourselves on crafting a collaborative culture that champions knowledge-sharing, ambitious thinking, and innovation – ultimately providing employees with the opportunity to work across teams, functions, and even globally.

Recognizing the importance of individualized flexibility, our ways of working allow employees to balance personal and work commitments while ensuring we continue to create a strong culture of collaboration and teamwork by engaging face-to-face in our offices 3 days a week. Our head office and BlueSky Hub in downtown Toronto are purposely designed with collaboration in mind, providing space where teams can come together to strategize, brainstorm, and connect on key projects.

Our dedication to sustainability is also central to our culture and part of what makes AstraZeneca a great place to work. We know the health of people, the planet, and our business are interconnected, which is why we’re taking ambitious action to tackle some of the biggest challenges of our time, from climate change to access to healthcare and disease prevention.

The Medical Evidence Delivery Operations within the Oncology Business Unit (OBU) is responsible for the operational delivery of observational and interventional AstraZeneca sponsored studies (AZ studies), externally sponsored research (ESR), and early access programs (EAP) to generate evidence to build confidence in and provide access to AstraZeneca therapies for patients in need.

The Manager, Data & Analytics role (MDA) will support analyzing delivery operations data from across AZ studies, ESR, and EAP, and will be responsible for developing reports, visualizations, and dashboards to aid data review, identify data quality issues, and enable data-driven decisions by the OBU Evidence Delivery Leadership Team (OBU EDLT).

The role will work closely with the Associate Director, Data & Analytics, focusing on managing the existing data & analytics environment, as well as participating and/or leading planning, designing, and launching new initiatives. The Data & Analytics Team will mainly support leaders in the OBU EDLT and collaborate across OBU to implement best practice analytical solutions that serve EGP2 (Evidence Generation, Publications, and Partnerships) in deploying vision, strategy, and processes to improve operational performance. The MDA will ensure robust data extraction from various sources and provide a consolidated view of the EGP2 portfolio with different granularities.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design and develop analytics solutions for evidence portfolio that are stable, scalable, and ensure transparency of data.
  2. Build insightful visualizations to meet business needs using the newest technologies.
  3. Monitor functionality of tools, systems, and metrics used by EGP2 and deliver training to end users.
  4. Support activities to streamline data collection and integrations, ensuring high data quality into our systems and metrics.
  5. Collaborate with departments to craft, upgrade, and manage systems used by EGP2.
  6. Maintain key performance metrics (KPIs) for the OBU Evidence Delivery Team and activity types to enable reliable productivity assessment.
  7. Analyze past and present data, delivering high-quality periodic and ad hoc analyses to customers.
  8. Assist in revising and developing SOPs and working instructions as needed.
  9. Participate actively in major business initiatives, including improvement projects.
Essential Education, Experience & Skills:
  • Experience in data engineering, including database design, administration, and data pipelines setup and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of data visualization design and storytelling.
  • Experience using BI tools for creating interactive reports, dashboards, and visualizations.
  • Strong skills in Business Analysis, Project Management, and Documentation.
  • Ability to interpret data and translate findings into conclusions.
  • Strategic thinking and analytical skills.
  • Organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, at a senior level.
  • Customer-focused approach and ability to build relationships with end users.
  • High cultural sensitivity, collaborative communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Networking skills to interact effectively internally and externally.
  • University degree in business, sciences, or related field.
Desired Experience & Skills:
  • Experience in a pharmaceutical organization, especially related to clinical trials.
  • Knowledge of medical activities and evidence study delivery.
  • Experience working in multicultural, virtual teams.
