Inviting applications for the role of Manager, Canadian Payroll.
Responsibilities
- Leadership: Supports the implementation of company programs in collaboration with key stakeholders e.g. IT, HRIS, Compensation and Benefits.
- Planning and Execution: Plans and manages department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives; consults closely with business leaders and regional partner resource heads to establish payroll approach and programs and ensures alignment with overall company policies, programs, and business objectives; applies knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities.
- Business Acumen: Provides functional expertise and executes functional responsibilities; directs payroll activities related to mergers and acquisitions and companywide or site-specific projects; ensures timely and accurate payroll for all Canadian associates; ensures statutory deductions and returns are filed on time; oversees process improvements for efficient payroll processing, tax reporting, accounting, and record retention; serves as internal expert on compliance and technical issues involving Canada payroll, taxes, benefits, labor laws, and payroll tax responsibilities.
- Daily Responsibilities: Conducts daily review of open items and manual check lists; performs payroll tasks to ensure submissions are completed as required; reviews performance relative to contractual SLAs; coordinates quarterly adjustments and year-end activities; manages relationships with third-party vendors, Benefits, Total Rewards, HR, Tax, Treasury, and Finance; manages payroll policies and procedures for audit compliance; performs security audits within the payroll system; performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or finance.
- Experience in accounting, business, or human resources.
- Experience working with third-party systems (ADP, SAP, ServiceNow, etc.).
- Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to interface at the highest levels within an organization.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Working knowledge of labor law directives as they relate to payroll and tax (e.g., working time, minimum wage regulations, regular rate of pay calculations, maternity/paternity leave).
- Strong analytical and financial analysis skills.
- Knowledge of and ability to navigate vendor relationships with 3rd party payroll service providers and SLAs to deliver timely and accurate payroll.
- Language skills: ability to communicate in English and French (written and verbal).
- Microsoft Office Suite (emphasis on Excel and Word); enterprise HRIS (preferably SAP) with interface to external payroll vendor.
