Job Description

Team Description

The Financial Analytics & Planning team enables the Fund’s ability to make informed strategic decisions. It provides management views focused on actionable cost perspectives that analyze key trends and anticipates future decisions. This includes leading cost management, reporting, business planning, and optimizing resource allocation to drive value creation and achieve organizational goals.

As a Manager, Cost Analytics in the Financial Analytics & Planning team, you will be responsible for aligning the organization's operational strategy with financial goals and ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to support business needs. In this role, you contribute to comprehensive cost analysis for specific cost categories which includes monitoring and managing cost performance against relevant key performance indicators and objectives. This also includes the provision of valuable insights and actionable recommendations to promote financial discipline and drive decision-making.

Accountabilities

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual cost reporting and analysis for CPP Investments to support both internal reporting to the Senior Management Team, Board of Directors, and Departments as well as the Annual Report.
  • Manage the Fund's strategic annual and long-term cost planning process supported by cost modeling using a driver-based approach that aligns with business goals, fund guidance and other strategic objectives.
  • Lead the development, enhancement and maintenance of data models, presentations, and dashboards for Fund performance reporting and analysis.
  • Collaborate with different stakeholders across Finance and other departments to develop comprehensive cost analyses and insights. Insights and analysis will be presented to the Senior Management Team, Audit Committee, and Board of Directors as well as in the Annual Report.
  • Develop and oversee Cost Benchmarking models both internally and with external vendors to facilitate cost performance assessments and budget planning.
  • Promote continuous improvements in processes and cost reporting through automation while ensuring integrity and accuracy of the outputs.
  • Supervise, direct, and support direct reports by giving regular feedback, evaluating their performance, and setting clear expectations and project-specific advice to achieve high levels of excellence.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience (5+ years) in preparing budget, forecasts, and ex-post cost variance analysis.
  • Exemplify CPP Investments Guiding Principles of integrity, partnership, and high performance.
  • Solid problem-solving skills with experience in automation tools, data manipulation software, or planning software (e.g., Python, SQL, Tableau, Think-cell, Oracle Enterprise Performance Management).
  • Proven skill in working with, analyzing big data sets, and combining different and often complex sources of information and turning them into clear insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Exhibit resilience in the face of change and can effectively manage competing demands.
  • Effective delegation and supervision of specific output.
  • Apply critical thinking to resolve operational or cross-departmental issues and deliver insight and recommendations. Leads self and others to solve broadly defined problems by considering impact beyond own team.
  • CPA, CFA or MBA would be an asset.
