Job description

Venor is proud to partner with Carvery Group in their search for a Manager, Construction & Major Projects to join their team and lead the development of our construction operations from the ground up.

Carvery Group is a well-established, family-owned business with deep roots in Nova Scotia and a proven track record of excellence across real estate, facilities management, and community-building initiatives. As the company embarks on a bold new chapter in expanding its construction division, this role presents an exciting opportunity for a driven and entrepreneurial professional to help shape the future of how construction is delivered at Carvery’s.

This is not a traditional project management role with a pre-built playbook, it’s a rare leadership opportunity to shape the systems, processes, and team that will define a growing construction division within a well-established organization.

If you’re energized by innovation, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and are passionate about driving real impact through your work, this role offers a rare chance to leave your mark on a business in transformation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of commercial and industrial construction projects across HRM.
  • Oversee both field and office operations to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Manage subcontractors, vendors, and site staff, holding all stakeholders accountable for performance.
  • Implement project tracking tools and reporting systems in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Support the rollout and use of job costing and purchase order systems such as Jobber or similar.
  • Prepare and review budgets, project schedules, and financial reporting.
  • Act as the key liaison between clients, consultants, and internal teams to ensure project alignment.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of SOPs, workflows, and delivery standards that will define the division’s operations.
  • Identify project risks early and deploy proactive mitigation strategies.

Qualifications and Skills:

The ideal candidate possesses demonstrated experience managing commercial, industrial, or general contracting projects from initiation to successful completion. They are a confident and motivating leader with strong communication skills, capable of inspiring teams to achieve shared objectives. With a proactive, big picture mindset, they are comfortable navigating ambiguity, adapting to change, and establishing structure where needed. A solid understanding of project management and job costing tools such as Jobber, Procore, or MS Project is required, along with knowledge of local construction codes, permitting processes, and safety standards in Nova Scotia. PMP certification is considered an asset. A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel locally are also essential.

We embrace a culture of belonging in the workplace. No matter who you are, where you’re from, how you think, what you believe in, or who you love, we welcome your application.
