About The Nature Trust of British Columbia

Tasked with protecting the natural riches of the province, The Nature Trust of BC is a leading non-profit land conservation organization. Since 1971 they have acquired more than 500 conservation areas in British Columbia, including treasured places like the Salmon River, Boundary Bay, and the White Lake Basin.

As Manager, Communications + Media Relations, you will...

  • Create effective, strategic storytelling opportunities for all communications.
  • Produce engaging content for newsletters, feature articles, stewardship and annual reports.
  • Work closely with department heads to create innovative, targeted communication approaches to support revenue generation.
  • Work with external vendors to ensure consistent, high-quality output and return on investment.
  • Manage the production of video and photography assets.
  • Develop and execute a strategic media relations plan aligned with the overall strategy to increase awareness of the organization.
  • Draft, pitch and distribute news releases, advisories, and announcements.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key media to enhance visibility and support the organization’s mission.
  • Manage media requests for information, assets, interviews, and routing opportunities appropriately.
  • Monitor media coverage and provide best practices metrics against KPIs.
  • Flag potential news opportunities and emerging issues.
  • Keep a pulse on the media landscape to identify opportunities.
  • Monitor media coverage of current conservation news and trends.

You have...

  • 8+ years of experience in a similar role in storytelling, PR, media relations, fundraising PR, media or communications.
  • A degree or equivalent in communications, marketing, PR, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining media relationships, crafting and pitching newsworthy stories and successful strategic editorial media placements.
  • Proven recent and relevant experience in public relations, communications and / or media relations.
  • A demonstrated ability to create compelling narratives and pitch media effectively.
  • Creative flair, excellent storytelling abilities, and exceptional verbal, written, and editing skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to define media relations plans with clear goals and objectives for multiple target audiences.
  • The ability to navigate the media landscape and develop strong relationships with key players.
  • Experience working with cross-departmental teams.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills including the capability to successfully manage, prioritize, and execute multiple concurrent tasks while meeting tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills including the ability to write, copy edit and proofread.
  • The ability to effectively communicate complex scientific information with a range of audiences.
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Diplomacy, professionalism, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Full-time, hybrid. Must be able to work 3 days a week from the Vancouver office.
