The Work

The Manager, Commercial Portfolio Management, will be a key member of the Commercial Credit team, reporting to the Director, Commercial Portfolio Management. You will mentor team members, ensure efficient operations, and oversee credit risk assessments, compliance, and policy adherence.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Ensuring compliance with policies and submitting recommendations for management approval based on delegated authority
  • Providing support, guidance, and mentoring to team members, resolving challenges, and assessing training needs
  • Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to provide optimal service
  • Developing and maintaining metrics to measure turnaround times and service quality
  • Promoting growth within the business to meet retention objectives
  • Assessing credit risk thoroughly within the bank’s risk appetite and policies
  • Supporting timely reporting for senior management
  • Monitoring workflow to meet production and service targets
  • Providing performance feedback and supporting professional development
  • Managing and evaluating contract employees, interns, and shadowing employees
  • Reviewing compliance and QA audits, compiling feedback, and recording results
  • Supporting department projects and initiatives as needed

  • Strong leadership and coaching skills
  • Post-secondary education in business or finance preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in commercial real estate lending
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with senior management
  • Technical knowledge of commercial lending and financial analysis
  • High integrity and detail-oriented
  • Experience with AML/ATF regulations and legal documentation across Canada
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle high volume work
  • Analytical, organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Bilingualism is an asset

Job Complexities/Thinking Challenges

  • Self-starter with the ability to prioritize and make sound lending decisions efficiently
  • Manage complex files requiring creative thinking and proactive problem-solving
  • Follow policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements diligently
  • Prepare and recommend risk mitigation actions, especially related to AML/ATF risks
  • Handle supervisory and mentoring challenges effectively
