Manager, Business Development

Reporting to the Director, Business Development (Director), the Manager, Business Development (Manager) is a key strategic position that plays a pivotal role in driving economic growth and fostering sustainable business initiatives within the unique context of Nunavut’s economic landscape. The position is also instrumental in identifying, nurturing, and realizing diverse business opportunities that align with the territory’s economic development strategy.

The Business Development Unit focuses on the following main sections: Business Development and promotion; Economic Development in all sectors; Harvesting Economy; Internal and International Trade; and Strategic collaborations and partnerships. The Manager is responsible through the Director, for the planning, implementation and coordination of policies, programs and initiatives related to these focus areas. Working closely with the Directors of Community Operations in each of the three regions, the position will ensure that programs and services are delivered on a fair and consistent basis across the Territory. The Manager will provide direct supervision to subordinate staff and any number of casual, term, or contracting employees as required.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized undergraduate degree in Economics, Business Law, Commerce or related field, along with three (3) years of relevant experience. One (1) year of supervisory experience is also required. Experience in the development and operations of a small business(es), including experience working in Nunavut would be considered as an asset. This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
