The Corporation of the City of Thunder Bay has a rewarding opportunity for a Manager – Budgets & Financial Planning!

Work Location: Thunder Bay

The Opportunity

Reporting to the City Treasurer, you will manage the Corporation’s budget, tangible capital asset reporting, and long-term planning. You will lead a team, collaborate with the City’s Executive Management and Leadership Teams, and develop the annual operating and capital budgets, as well as the long-term financial plan. You will also oversee the general ledger chart of accounts and contribute to strategic initiatives within the division.

This role offers a unique opportunity to serve the public, working with City officials, leaders, and City Council members to shape the City’s budget, funding services and infrastructure for Thunder Bay.

Ideal Candidate

  • University degree in business administration, commerce, or a related field, with a professional accounting designation and at least five years of progressive management experience in municipal finance or business management.
  • Knowledge of regulations, legislation, and processes related to financial reporting for local governments, and familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles for the public sector as prescribed by the Public Sector Accounting Board of CPA Canada.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City Council members, officials, direct reports, colleagues, and the public.
  • Proven expertise in business and financial management, with the ability to enhance efficiency and effectiveness through resource management.
