Job description

Position: Broadcast Technology Manager

Department: Game Presentation

Reports to: Director, Marketing

Term: September 2025 – April 2026

Summary

The Manager, Broadcast Technology will manage, schedule and train Part-Time Audio Systems Operators, Lighting and Broadcast technicians. He/she will also operational and technical support for Arena Media Technology including Outside Broadcast Partners, AV Areas and Event Manager requests and will conduct media systems maintenance tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned, as required):

  • Manage, schedule Part Time Audio Systems Operators, Lighting and Interconnect technicians.
  • Manage the administration of updates, backups Audio/Visual/Lighting/Broadcast computers.
  • Manage expense reporting on a monthly basis.
  • Facilitate digital matrix intercom system changes on a per event basis
  • Schedule in-house repair work and firmware updates on all Audio Visual/Lighting/Broadcast equipment (Video routers, video switchers, Audio consoles, video replay systems, Live Streaming systems, etc).
  • Maintain relationships with Audio Equipment manufacturers, vendors, and technical support
  • Schedule required DSP/ AV Control system updates on in building AV systems
  • Identify and create capital expenditure requests for recommended Audio-Visual Lighting updates
  • Working closely with various vendors, distributors, and AV companies to create and verify designs for in building Audio Visual Lightings systems.
  • Schedule operational and maintenance shifts for part time broadcast Audio, Video and Lighting staff
  • Hire, train and cross train part time staff
  • Collaborate with Event Managers, Game Presentation to support events and determine schedule
  • Liaise with the Broadcasters on what time they arrive, what needs they have and what rooms they would like to book etc
  • Troubleshoot and resolve various problems that occur between broadcast trucks and the in-house system, in a live broadcast environment
  • Manage reports for issues that arise during shifts. Including hardware malfunctions or damage and/or personnel mistakes.
  • Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for operation of in-house AV systems
  • Maintain an inventory of Audio Video Lighting and broadcast equipment, tools and consumables
  • Own development of Abbotsford Canucks Broadcast (TV/Radio/Online)

Required Skills, Experience & Abilities

  • Ability to lead and mentor a team of part time audio staff, proving direction and training
  • Has knowledge and experience with audio, video, lighting, broadcast systems/cabling – Including video routers, switchers, replay machines, playback machines, CG machines, Broadcast Cameras, Moving light fixtures, Lighting consoles, Digital Audio consoles, etc)
  • Has a strong understanding of computer networking in an AV and broadcast environment
  • Knowledge and experience with video equipment such as test and measurement scopes, knowing the different types of formats and how they apply to your environment.
  • Proficiency with wireless/IFB, audio equipment, computers, software, networking and proprietary control systems
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, and ability to handle multiple projects and tasks
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends as required by the event schedule
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure, tight time deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Has a working knowledge of the Broadcast patchbays, Telco Rooms, AV/IT Equipment Rooms.
  • Have an understanding of modern professional sports venues, including safety protocol
  • Comfortable working with cabling runs, Broadcast patchbays, and equipment rooms
  • Have a working knowledge of digital audio distribution and matrix intercom systems
