Role Description

The Mechanical Engineering team at Form is focused on designing the battery cell, module, and system enclosure that forms the foundation of our innovative utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. We strive to deliver designs that are optimized for performance, quality, reliability, and cost for high-volume manufacturing at Form Factory.

We're hiring an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead our newly formed Analysis & Mechanical Architecture team in Berkeley, CA. This team is focused on supporting mechanical architectural definition, structural and thermal analysis, and model validation to proactively ensure designs are performant, and optimally meet requirements. The team will work closely with cross functional partners such as EE, cell performance, and system modeling to develop cohesive system architectures. In this role, you will manage a team of design and analysis engineers in support of design and build activities on pilot manufacturing lines in Berkeley, CA, and production lines in Weirton, WV. You will act as a player-coach to effectively grow and mentor a well rounded engineering team in our fast-paced technical environment. If this sounds like the right role for you, apply now!

What you'll do :

Manage and grow a world-class team of mechanical architects, thermal engineers, and structural engineers

Lead the mechanical architecture, and structural / fluid / thermal analysis and optimization of Form Energy's iron-air battery

Collaborate with an interdisciplinary teams of battery, electrical, chemical, and systems engineers to develop, model, and optimize system designs for performance, cost, and reliability throughout the full development cycle

What you'll bring :

Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; with 7+ years of industry experience

Well-developed experience analyzing and designing mechanical systems, assemblies and components high-volume manufacture in a hardware product development company

Demonstrated experience leading, managing, and mentoring direct reports

Expert knowledge of either : thermal analysis (CFD / FEA), structural analysis (static / dynamic)

Strong mechanical design experience across multiple shipping products

Experience defining products and engineering requirements, and implementing FMEA principles

Experience in batteries, energy storage, or other high power products is a plus

Strong technical communication skills, especially with external parties and across internal functional teams
