Department Overview

The Model Validation (MV) group in Enterprise Risk, Risk Management is responsible for the independent validation and approval of all analytical models used for pricing, hedging and risk and capital evaluation of financial products and portfolios of financial products.

Job Description

The position reports to Senior Manager, Advanced Analytics – Liquidity Risk Management Model Validation.

Detailed accountabilities include:

  • Independently validate the Liquidity Risk Management (LRM) models developed or owned by TD Treasure and Balance Sheet Management (TBSM) group.
    • Develop an effective and efficient validation testing plan based on structure/design of different aggregation systems and complete validation in time to support various Liquidity Risk Management initiatives and regulators' requirements.
    • Assess soundness of the model design and modelling data quality, conduct validation testing to assess model implementation accuracy and model performance, and assess the adequacy of model governance/controls according to the validation testing plan.
    • Communicate effectively with different stakeholders and solve model limitations/issues to meet validation lead time targets.
    • Prepare high quality model validation reports with adequate information and justification to support validation conclusions and audit/regulator review/assessment of validation process.
  • Recommend the approval of the models or other corrective actions based on the independent vetting and validation.
  • Maintain full professional knowledge of techniques and developments in quantitative analysis in LRM & liquidity risk reporting, sharing knowledge with business partners and senior management.
  • Assume a subject matter expert (SME) role to support developing standards and procedures for vetting and validation that are compliant with the Bank’s internal Model Risk Policy, adhere to industry best practices, and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Instruct/support junior validators in internal team for different LRM model validations.
  • Prepare responses to requests from both Canadian and U.S. regulators, internal and external audit in their review/audit of risk models and vetting/validation process and procedures.
  • Work effectively with internal model development group, Audit, and other internal partners to ensure risk models meet required Bank standards for use.

Job Requirements:

  • Advanced quantitative skills with a post-secondary degree in finance, financial engineering, statistics, economics/econometrics, or mathematics.
  • Solid knowledge of financial products/portfolios regarding cash flow patterns and requirements, key factors impacting cash flow, and their pricing/valuation approaches as well as financial/regulatory reporting in liquidity risk management.
  • 2+ years of experience in either developing or validating large TBSM reporting systems in liquidity risk management.
  • Proficient in relevant programming languages such as SAS in MLE, SQL, and Python. Familiarity with JSON is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time/project management and multitasking skills with minimal supervision.
