The Opportunity

Reporting to the AVP, Actuarial, this role leads and executes annual goals relating to risk assessments, pricing strategies, reserving policies and reporting as assigned by leadership. The role will manage team resources and processes, assigning tasks to ensure schedules and goals are met. The role will lead the ORSA risk measurement process to support annual reporting by developing robust models and methodologies to estimate actuarial risk.

The Actuarial Manager ensures that data accuracy, integrity and consistency are acted upon in a timely and appropriate fashion for departmental projects. The role recommends procedural improvements and policy adjustments for better accuracy in pricing and risk assessments. In addition, the role directly manages the team’s actuarial work to ensure department goals are met, particularly in pricing analysis and risk evaluation and contributes to broader department initiatives.

As the successful candidate, you will :

  • Directly supervise a small team of 4-6 actuarial analysts, providing mentorship & coaching as well as managing performance reviews and team development.
  • Manage the department schedules to ensure effective team resourcing.
  • Resolve complex actuarial issues related to pricing and risk and proposes process & policy improvements to optimize the team’s performance.
  • Communicate insights to the leadership team to support decision making.
  • Collaborate with departments to estimate the impact arising from reserving practise changes and regulatory reforms.
  • Review performance against targets, perform root cause analysis and provide recommendations for action to address the underlying issues.

Your Skills and Qualifications

  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or Statistics.
  • You have a minimum of 7 years of prior experience in Property and Casualty actuarial field, with a minimum of 2 years in Reinsurance pricing
  • You have a minimum of 2 years experience in a people leadership role.
  • You have completed your FCAS / FCIA designation. You have excellent communication skills along with exceptional interpersonal skills to develop deep-rooted relationships, influence change and exhibit a collaborative leadership style.
  • You hold strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to prioritize competing demands and projects.
