Mercor seeks native Malayalam speakers for a data annotation project focused on Malayalam documents. Locate public Malayalam PDFs, annotate structure, bound regions, and assign reading order with high accuracy.

This role emphasizes character-level transcription and strict diacritic fidelity, including handwritten content. You will work under a Malayalam expert review to ensure corpus quality.

Qualifications

• You are a native Malayalam speaker with full command of the script and diacritics.
• Experience with document annotation, transcription, localization, or related linguistics tasks is preferred.
• You must ensure character-level accuracy and consistent taxonomy across pages.
• You can work with unfamiliar layouts such as multi-column documents and handwritten forms.

Responsibilities

• Source documents: find a publicly accessible Malayalam PDF with at least one multimodal element and record its source.
• Annotate structure: bound every meaningful region and assign a component type and reading-order index.
• Record relationships: link each region to the figure or table it belongs to via a parent ID.
• Transcribe faithfully: reproduce all text exactly in Malayalam script, noting illegible regions.
• Capture page metadata: language, document type, source, page dimensions, and flags for tables/handwriting.
• Review a colleague's work: undergo second-expert review by another Malayalam annotator.
