Job Description

Our Canada Water Business Line is seeking a dynamic and experienced Major Projects Delivery Lead to strengthen our leadership team. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this senior role is pivotal in ensuring successful delivery of our most complex projects, driving commercial performance, and providing strategic oversight across project portfolios.

As Major Projects Delivery Lead, you will partner closely with operational management team, Project Managers and Discipline Leads to support project delivery excellence, client satisfaction, and financial performance across the Canadian water business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Delivery Leadership: Provide oversight and governance on large, multi-disciplinary water and wastewater projects (municipal, industrial, and private sector), mining projects, and hydropower/transmission projects. Ensure delivery excellence in scope, schedule, budget, risk management, and quality. Drive continuous improvement in delivery models, governance, and lessons learned.
  • Commercial Oversight: Champion strong commercial practices, including leading contract negotiation, commercial structuring, change management, subcontracts, earned value calculation, cashflow, risk management, financial reporting, dispute resolution, and claims strategies on major pursuits and active projects.
  • Strategic Oversight: Partner with the Director of Operations to shape delivery models, improve business processes, and embed project management best practices across the Canada Water Business Line.
  • Client Engagement: Act as a senior point of contact for key clients, supporting business development and ensuring consistent client satisfaction.
  • Mentorship & Capacity Building: Develop and coach Project Managers, Commercial Managers, and Delivery Teams, embedding AECOM’s project delivery standards and building business and commercial acumen across the project management community.
  • Collaboration: Work across the region, disciplines, and markets to leverage AECOM’s global expertise while aligning with Canadian regulatory, market, and client needs.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of 12 years’ experience in Engineering or Construction, Alternative Delivery (Design-Build, Progressive DB, Alliance, P3, CMGC, CMAR, IPD, DBFOM etc.) project management, project controls and staff leadership.
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, business, law, or construction management.
  • 10 years’ experience developing and negotiating terms and conditions for engineering or construction contracts, contract change orders, and contract dispute negotiation.
  • Working knowledge of Engineering/ Construction industry contracting practices, applicable government and commercial regulations and practices, policies, procedures, and work practices.
  • Working knowledge of project management, project controls, change order management, and estimating on medium and large complex projects.
  • Working knowledge of project accounting for medium and large complex projects
  • Proven leadership on large, complex multi-disciplinary projects (>$100M in construction value).
  • Strong understanding of project controls, risk management, contracts, and financial management.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with senior client representatives, regulators, and internal stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 20+ years of experience in consulting engineering, EPCM, or construction.
  • Track record of coaching project managers and improving organizational delivery performance.
  • Understanding of Canadian municipal, provincial, and federal water/wastewater frameworks.
  • Experience in the Canadian hydro power and transmissions market.
  • Good knowledge of French, both written and oral, is a definite asset.
