Maintenance Worker

Casual, starting as soon as possible

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for general maintenance and repairs of SMUS’s buildings. This is part-time and seasonal work, ideal for individuals with flexible schedules, who can work on short notice and seek to supplement their income.

Hours vary and include weekends and evenings. This role involves physical work and may require outdoor work during inclement weather.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations:

• Basic demolition work, lifting, and moving furniture and boxes.
• Building security, locking buildings and windows after hours.
• Cleaning work areas, equipment, and tools.
• Operating and maintaining power and hand tools.
• Basic plumbing, drywall repair, painting, and general building maintenance.
• Ensuring safety standards are met and work crews are safe.
• Assisting with setup and takedown of tables, chairs, supplies, and equipment for school events.
• Cleaning windows and power washing areas.
• Performing other duties as required.

Candidate Requirements:

• Minimum high school diploma required.
• Preferably five years of experience.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, electrical systems preferred.
• Knowledge of building maintenance and trades is an asset.
• Problem-solving skills and ability to respond to last-minute issues.
• Ability to work independently with sound judgment.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Team-oriented attitude.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Physical strength and stamina to lift and carry 40-50 lbs.
• Valid B.C. Driver’s License (Class 5).
• Experience in a school environment and First Aid/CPR certification are assets.
• Proficiency with MS Outlook, file management, and basic computer skills.

Additional Details:

Pay Range: $21.23 – $24.97 per hour

Criminal Record Check: Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for working with children.
