Job summary

Coast Mental Health is seeking a Maintenance Worker to perform cleaning, landscaping and interior & exterior upkeep at various Coast properties. Shifts are casual with on-call evenings and weekends across the Lower Mainland. Location: Fraser Valley – Surrey, Coquitlam and Maple Ridge.

Salary ranges from $26.87 to $28.75 CAD per hour; schedule 7am–3pm, Monday to Friday, with varied shifts. The role requires Grade 12 education or equivalent and a certificate in Building Service/Cleaning, plus

• Grade 12 education or equivalent; certificate in Building Service/Cleaning required.
• Proficient with small power tools and equipment.
• Ability to work unsupervised and use sound judgement.
• WHMIS certificate.
• Valid BC Class 5 driver's license.
• First Aid certificate.
• Able to work on-call during evenings and weekends across Lower Mainland.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repair work on sinks, toilets, doors, lighting, and fixtures.
• Support cleaning, landscaping and interior/exterior upkeep at Coast properties.
• Monitor supplies, place purchase orders, and coordinate with contractors.
• Respond to building emergencies and participate in on-call rotation.
• Assist with basic carpentry, painting, and minor electrical tasks as needed.

This is a casual position. As such, there is no specific or guaranteed schedule associated with the position. Shifts are offered on an as-needed basis, in accordance with operational requirements and the applicable Collective Agreement. Employees may be contacted to fill available shifts based on their availability and operational needs.

Job Summary
Under the direction of the Manager or designate, the Maintenance Worker performs a variety of cleaning, landscaping and interior & exterior maintenance duties at various Coast properties.

Typical Functions & Responsibilities

• Performs typical maintenance and repair work such as unplugging sinks and toilets, minor drywall repairs, touching up paint, changing locks, door handles and replacing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes. Notifies supervisor of major repair and maintenance requirements, and contacts external contractors and tradespeople to obtain quotes as required.
• Performs additional duties such as repairing furniture, constructing shelves, installing switches, dimmers, replacing plugs, fuses and other minor electrical repairs, applying paint and other finishes, repairs to equipment, replacing sinks, toilets and plumbing fixtures.
• Cleans, washes, and disinfects building areas such as walls, windows, ceilings, floors, carpets, air vents, furniture, mattresses, blinds, and washrooms by methods such as dusting, polishing, vacuuming, sweeping, wet mopping, shampooing, waxing, and buffing, using various manual and power cleaning equipment.
• Cleans external areas such as entrance ways, sidewalks, and parking lots using manual and power brooms, rakes, shovels, and other equipment to remove dirt, leaves, snow, and other refuse, general grounds keeping.
• Monitors maintenance and housekeeping supplies. Places purchase orders with external suppliers, receives supplies, checks invoices against orders and goods received, stores and distributes supplies, and contacts suppliers to obtain and provide general information.
• Collects and removes garbage and recyclable materials, and ensures the safe disposal of hazardous waste.
• Monitors work performed by contractors, contacts external contractors and tradespeople to obtain quotes, and arranges for minor repairs and maintenance work.
• Solicits quotes from service providers, vendors and suppliers such as equipment and parts suppliers, trades and general contractors.
• The Maintenance Worker will be required to go on an on-call rotation during evenings and weekends for one week every 6 weeks and respond to building emergencies.
• Additional duties as assigned

Typical Education, Training and Experience

• Grade 12 education or equivalent, a Certificate in Building Service/Cleaning from a recognized college or equivalent combination of education, training and two years of experience are required.
• Proficient using small power tools and equipment such as hammer drills, augers and skill-saws.
• Ability to work unsupervised and use of sound judgement
• A WHMIS Certificate,
• A valid B.C Class 5 Driver’s license
• A First Aid Certificate
• Able to work on-call during evenings and weekends and at locations across the Lower Mainland
