Job Description :
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY : This position provides required sanitation cleaning and custodial service to custodial standards ensuring the building environment is healthy and comfortable as well as distributing daily tasks and lead the custodial team when Facility Manager / Corps Officer is not onsite.
ACCOUNTABILITIES :
The incumbent may perform all some or similar range of duties.
1. Custodial :
Works independently or cooperatively with team members to complete tasks on schedule and according to quality standards.
Responds to and assists caretakers in their daily tasks in the absence of a supervisor.
Cleans sanitizes sweeps dusts mops washes vacuums polishes and waxes floors.
Cleans windows mirrors woodwork furniture equipment and other surfaces.
Cleans washroom facilities and shower rooms.
Cleans offices classrooms and other rooms.
Supplies toilet paper paper towels soap and other hygiene items.
Empties trash bins and dispose of trash in the garbage compactor or garbage bins.
Cleans sterilizes and / or disinfects areas.
Cleans sterilizes and / or disinfects equipment before and after each use.
Spot cleans carpets and performs general carpet cleaning as required.
Performs more extensive cleaning carpet cleaning stripping and waxing floors and light Maintenance : during non-peak programming periods.
Organizes and maintains janitorial supplies in janitorial room(s) and on janitorial carts.
Monitors and maintains stock of regularly used items i.e. mops brooms lights supplies etc. and orders / purchases as required.
Informs Facility Manager of general repairs and Maintenance : items requiring attention.
Performs minor repairs such as electrical (change light bulbs) and plumbing (unblocking toilets troubleshooting flushing issues) wall parch-painting light furniture fixing (tighten screws) reports safety concerns and major repair issues to supervisor.
Follows established procedures and record keeping for inventory tracking.
Lifts and moves furniture as requested.
Performs laundry service as required by program / department needs.
Complies with all prescribed sanitation and building disinfecting protocols.
2. Administrative :
Attend meetings as requested by Director of Facilities or Facility Manager.
Attends specialized work training when scheduled.
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT :
Internal : Team members in program Ministry Unit managers and staff residents and clients.
External : Vendors suppliers and service providers.
MANAGERIAL / TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
Reports directly to the Property Manager.
Direct reports : none.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT :
Minor material responsibility.
No financial responsibility. The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Armys Mission Statement in a professional manner upholding our code of conduct.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
Work is done at a mens residential shelter indoors and outdoors.
Handles garbage and cleans up human waste and biohazard substances.
Odours exposure to toxic chemicals electrical hazards and infectious diseases.
Deals with aggressive people. May experience verbal and less likely physical attacks.
Risk of needle pricks back injuries and repetitive strain injuries.
Works in various weather conditions when working outdoors.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS :
Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.
Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.
Education Qualifications and Certifications :
High School Diploma or equivalency
Experience and Knowledge :
At least two years of prior cleaning experience and at least six months of experience leading a cleaning team.
Skills and Capabilities :
Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner.
Police Information Check (PIC) with Vulnerable Sector Search.
Child Intervention Check if working in the vicinity of children.
Ability to work independently and also participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.

Effective organizational and time management skills.
Lead by example by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible.

Police information check with vulnerable sector required paid by candidate
Compensation :
The target hiring range for this position is $15.69 to $19.62 with a maximum of $23.54.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
