Job summary

GROVES MEMORIAL COMMUNITY HOSPITAL is seeking a qualified Maintenance - Trades (Plumber) to join the Maintenance Department. The role focuses on operating, inspecting and maintaining heating, cooling and ventilation systems to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Responsibilities include routine inspections, repairs, installation and commissioning of plumbing and related equipment, and helping with shutdowns for projects.

Qualifications

• Trade certification through apprenticeship recognized by the Ontario College of Trades.
• Minimum three years' general maintenance experience in health care or industrial settings.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics and service manuals.
• Knowledge of WHMIS and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
• Ability to learn hospital systems and subsystems and their interconnections.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Perform plumbing and HVAC work in accordance with codes and Building Code requirements.
• Carry out routine inspections, repairs and maintenance of plumbing equipment across the Hospital and grounds.
• Repair plumbing, piping, fixtures, boilers, and related equipment.
• Install/commission new equipment and decommission old equipment.
• Assist with shutdowns during regular and project work.
• Perform daily, preventive and emergency maintenance on building systems.
• Manage inventory of critical and day-to-day supplies.
• Other duties as assigned.

MAINTENANCE – TRADES (Plumber)

(FULL TIME)

A full-time Maintenance - Trades (Plumber) opportunity is available within the Maintenance Department at GMCH.

TheTrade person operates, inspects and maintains the facilities' heating, cooling and ventilation systems to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all patients, visitors and staff. All work is carried out in accordance with established guidelines and standards.

This position is unionized with UNIFOR.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform work in compliance with the local and provincial codes and bylaws and the Building Code pertaining to plumbing and HVAC systems
• Carry out routine inspections, repairs and maintenance of plumbing equipment throughout the Hospital and Grounds as assigned
• Repairs to any plumbing, piping and associated equipment (i.e. lavatory fixtures, cold & hot water piping, steam & condensate piping/equipment, water filtration & water conditioning systems, boilers, compressors, medical gas piping and equipment, natural gas piping and patient-related equipment, etc.)
• Installation/commissioning of new equipment
• Decommissioning/disconnecting of old equipment
• Assist with shutdowns during regular and project work
• Perform daily, preventive and emergency maintenance on building systems
• Manage inventory of critical and day-to-day supplies
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Trade Certification through the apprenticeship process and recognized by the Ontario College of Trades
• Minimum three years’ general maintenance experience in a health care or industrial setting with boilers, large refrigeration equipment, pneumatic, electric and electric/pneumatic control systems, generating equipment and heating and air conditioning systems
• Proven skills and experience related to the care and repair to building systems which may include and is not limited to the following: HVAC systems, boiler maintenance, preventive and general maintenance of equipment and buildings
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings and service manuals
• Understanding of WHMIS and the Occupational Health & Safety Act
• Proven work history with regard to being punctual, dependable, and working with minimal supervision and as a team player in an ever-changing environment
• Ability to learn and understand hospital systems and subsystems, including their interconnections, safety features, and the impact of changes on related operations
• Knowledge of Building Automation System (BAS) is an asset
• Knowledge and skill in maintaining facility grounds, carpentry, building envelope, drywall/plaster and painting are assets
• Must possess a valid driver’s license

HOURS OF WORK:

• 37.5 hours per week
• On-call as per department schedule, including a scheduled 3.75 hour shift on Sat/Sun when on call
• Overtime as necessary

SALARY:

$34.84 - $35.49 per hour
