Overview
Maintain molds to produce quality parts and perform all aspects of mold trouble-shooting.
Responsibilities
- Exemplifies the Berry Behaviors and Values at all times. Leads by example and exhibits professionalism in all areas when representing Berry inside and outside of the plant.
- Work in a professional manner with other maintenance personnel and mold technicians as needed to keep all equipment in top working order resulting in only quality product being released to the customer.
- Reads and interprets blueprints or works from verbal or written instructions, sketches, or from the actual part to be copied or fitted.
- Plans the setup and operation of various machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, and machine tool feeds and speeds.
- Heat treats and welds parts as required.
- Uses precision measuring and gauging tools, performing required inspections before, during, and after machining.
- Uses hand tools of the trade for modifications as required.
- Fits and assembles mold parts, tools, and dies. Sets up, runs off, and tests molds to produce a product meeting specification, tracing die difficulties to their source and making any necessary modifications.
- May assist machinists and millwrights in injection molding press overhaul.
- May assist product designers by providing information about potential manufacturing difficulties with new product designs.
- Various other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 2+ years industrial maintenance, manufacturing, technical school &/or Associates degree from an accredited technical institute or combination education and experience.
- Regularly required to stand for long periods; use hands to finger, handle, or feel, objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
- Good hand-eye coordination is required.
- Frequently required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
- Frequently exposed to fumes, or airborne particles.
- Frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
- Good communication skills--verbal and written; must effectively communicate with employees, vendors, and customers.
- Independent in working effectively with little supervision; self-starter, displaying ability to work and deliver results in a fast-paced, performance driven environment.
- Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work as a cross-functional team member.
- Extensive knowledge with electrical, hydraulic and injection molding machines.
- Familiarity with "hot runner" mold systems is highly preferred.
- Ability to communicate with designers concerning technical ramifications of designs.
- Excellent corrected vision to read blueprints and to perform careful inspection of molds and test products.
Excellent manual dexterity, muscular control, and a delicate touch to accomplish precision work without damage to valuable molds.
