Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Maintenance Technician, Mechanical to join our Christina Lake operations. You will report to the Maintenance Coordinator and work with Operations staff to troubleshoot, manage parts inventory, and drive the work order lifecycle in line with Cenovus standards.

The role requires a Journeyman Millwright with at least 2 years of experience, CMMS (SAP) proficiency, and a focus on safety. This is a full-time, on-site position supporting multiple Oil Sands sites as needed.

Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Minimum Journeyman Millwright with 2 years of experience.
  • Dual ticket in Pipefitter or Machining is a plus.
  • Proficiency with CMMS software (SAP).
  • Transferable skills considered; valid driving record and background checks required.
  • Safety sensitive position requiring pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

Job description

Worker Type: Employee Job Post End Date: 09/24/2026 Cenovus is looking for a Maintenance Technician, Mechanical. Reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator, this role will be responsible for working with the Operations staff to provide troubleshooting expertise, providing input regarding equipment and spare part inventory, and supporting all work order process from creation to closure as per Cenovus standards. While this vacancy is currently at Christina Lake this posting could be used to fill vacancies at any of the Oil Sands Operations sites (Christina Lake, Christina Lake North, Foster Creek, or Sunrise, based on business need).

Work Environment: This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation. All Oil Sands Operations sites have full-service camp facilities and recreational amenities.

Transportation: Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations. Foster Creek is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. Christina Lake, Christina Lake North and Sunrise have service flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton. Saskatoon will become a service flight hub effective September 1, 2026. There will also be bus transportation to these sites from La Corey, AB / Lac La Biche, AB effective September 1, 2026.

What you’ll do:
  • Ensure effective maintenance of industrial equipment.
  • Deliver results for PM and PDM program.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards.
  • Interpret drawings and use appropriate codes and follow installation standards and practices.
  • Examine process flow drawings, equipment lists and specifications for reference purposes and for determining work procedures.
  • Provide support and technical advice to facilities engineering and project personnel.
  • Champion Cenovus safety initiatives and lead/participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and kickoff meetings Utilizes an appropriate balance of 'doing' and 'leading' to achieve team goals.
  • Identify and drive improvements in safety, efficiency, and cost.
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative team culture.
Who you are:
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Minimum Journeyman Millwright and 2 years’ experience.
  • Dual ticket certification for Pipefitter or Machining would be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in CMMS software (SAP).
  • We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.
  • As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre‑employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.
  • For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines.
  • A driver’s abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre‑employment screening for the final candidate.
