Description

NATURE & SCOPE OF POSITION

  • Reporting directly to the Maintenance Supervisor and/or indirectly to any shift supervisor as required, the primary responsibilities of the Maintenance Technician at CHS is to ensure continuous operation of machinery and equipment for the smooth functioning of crew activities and building systems.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES & AUTHORITY

  • Setup and oversee the operation of all equipment as required, in a productive and safe manner throughout the shift.
  • Setup machine(s) when changing to a new product.
  • Perform any major machine set-ups in the clean rooms or the extrusion room as required.
  • Ensure the continuous operation of all equipment by changing paper, film, polystyrene, connecting tube and banding paper as required, in a productive and safe manner throughout the shift.
  • Troubleshoot production and plant equipment when there is a breakdown, and repair priority machinery as quickly as possible.
  • Startup and shutdown of plant machinery as per policy for statutory holiday and plant shutdowns.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all the machinery as per the monthly sheets (F-032) and clean machines when not in use.
  • Report to Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Technician Lead Hand when machine problems are unsolved or a major repair is required.
  • Report to Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Technician Lead Hand any work which might require outside assistance.
  • Work with outside contractors when in the facility repairing or installing machinery.
  • Compile and submit parts lists to the Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Technician Lead Hand for ordering and request purchase of parts for the machinery as required.
  • Assure the maintenance shop is kept tidy and inventory of maintenance items are maintained.
  • Check with Supervisors and production personnel regularly to ensure machinery is operating properly.
  • Complete the work as outlined on the Maintenance Work Orders (F-033).
  • Visually inspect R.F. Heat Exchanger water level on a daily basis.
  • Sign green line form where required.
  • Inspect and empty scrap vacuum tanks for Form Fill Seal Machines and Central Vacuum System as required.
  • Visually inspect air compressor and chiller daily.
  • Train new Maintenance Technicians as required.
  • Work with others in the crew to promote and achieve the objectives of the company in an atmosphere of co-operation and teamwork.
  • Report all unsafe activities, procedures, or conditions to a Supervisor, Manager, or Health and Safety Representative.
  • Comply with the CHS’s Health and Safety regulations.
  • Any other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Preferred technical certificate or post secondary education in mechanical field and or 2 years experience in a mid-sized company performing setup/operation of machines in an ISO environment.
  • Must demonstrate a working knowledge of various trades, such as electrical, machining, plumbing etc.
  • Must be mechanically inclined and inquisitive in finding the cause of the problems when machines breakdown.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Must be proficient in written & spoken English.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Operating knowledge of personal computer and printer.
  • Must have experience with basic machine shop equipment.
  • Must have the skills and knowledge to keep all lines of communication open with Supervisors, Managers, Maintenance staff and Production staff.

WORK ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH & SAFETY

  • It’s estimated that the majority of time will be spent inside the Clean Room within a controlled climate. Some other time may be spent in the machine shop or warehouse and occasional time outside the facility including the roof.
  • All personal protective devices such as hairnets, glasses, gloves and earplugs, must be worn as required and CSA approved safety shoes or boots are mandatory.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The physical requirements are standing, walking and sitting, with 80% of working hours spent in a controlled Clean Room environment or anywhere in or outside the facility. This position also requires climbing a ladder, reaching, grasping, crouching, bending and flexing the arms, legs and wrists and good finger dexterity with ability to lift 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs for brief periods.

Shift Timings - Monday to Friday, 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Pay rate - $ 24.26 per hour, plus a $1.00/hour afternoon shift premium.
