Job summary

Suncor is seeking a skilled Electrical Technician for the Offshore Terra Nova FPSO. You will maintain and optimize electrical systems, troubleshoot issues, and support safe offshore production.

The role requires a Journeyman certificate or electrical diploma and offshore experience, with a 21 days on / 21 days off rotation. Strong focus on safety, data capture for condition monitoring, and collaboration in a high-hazard environment.

Qualifications

  • Five+ years of electrical experience in an industrial environment, preferably offshore.
  • Interprovincial Journeyman's Certificate (Electrical) or Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Hazardous Areas Equipment Training.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and industry codes for electrical discipline.
  • Experience with HV/LV power generation and distribution systems.
  • Testing/configuring Motor Protection Relays and HV switchboards procedures.
  • Familiar with Black Start Procedures; AC/DC drives and PLC controls.
  • Effective written, oral and computer communication skills.
  • Proficient with a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Understanding of control of work processes and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the integrity and perform safe and efficient maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Respond quickly to problems and breakdowns.
  • Capture data to support equipment condition monitoring.
  • Plan, coordinate and communicate daily electrical maintenance activities.
  • Adhere to the permit to work system during maintenance.
  • Participate in offshore emergency response as part of the team.
  • Report accidents, near misses and hazardous conditions.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate as a part of an offshore emergency response team

Minimum Requirements:
  • Five or more years of electrical experience in an industrial environment, preferably in an offshore oil and gas environment
  • Interprovincial Journeyman’s Certificate (Electrical) or Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Hazardous Areas Equipment Training
  • Working knowledge of regulatory and industry codes applicable to the electricaldiscipline
  • Experience with HV / LV power generation and distribution systems
  • Comfortable testing and configuring Motor Protection Relays (willingness to learn)
  • Comfortable Completing Switching Procedures on HV Switchboards
  • Familiar with Black Start Procedures
  • Experience with AC / DC drive systems and PLC controls
  • Effective communicationskills (written, oral and computer)
  • Proficient working with a computerized maintenance management system
  • An understanding of control of work processes and systems
  • Effective communication and conflict resolution skills (written, oral and computer)
  • Collaboration skills in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
Location and Other Key Information:
  • You will work onboard the Terra Nova FPSO. Transportation to / from the FPSO is provided from St. John’s, Newfoundland
  • As this an offshore position, you will be required to maintain mandatory training and certification for continued offshore work
  • The shift schedule is a 21 days on / 21 days off rotation, 12-hour shifts
  • Pay rate in accordance with Appendix A of the Collective Agreement between Terra Nova Employers’ Organization and Unifor Local 2121
  • Qualified residents of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador will be given first consideration in the staffing of this position
  • This position will remain open for applicants until September 17th, 2026
