Minimum Requirements:

  • Five or more years of instrumentation and controls experience in an industrial environment, preferably in an offshore oil and gas environment
  • Experience with of programmable logic controls (PLC), distributed control systems (DCS), emergency shutdown systems (ESD), and fire and gas systems
  • Familiar with control narratives, logic flow diagrams, cause and effect charts, instrument loop diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams
  • Familiar with industrial communication protocols and standards like Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, and OPC
  • Diploma in Instrumentation and Controls Engineering Technology or Bachelor of Engineering Degree in a related engineering discipline or Instrumentation and Controls Technician certificate
  • Valid Journeyman Instrumentation Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Instrument Certificate is preferred
  • Experience downloading, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting control system hardware and software modifications (ABB INFI 90 control systems is preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of design, implementation, maintenance of control system logic and equipment
  • Proficient working with a computerized maintenance management system
  • An strong understanding of control of work processes and systems


Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the integrity and perform safe and efficient maintenance of the distributed control system (ABB INFI 90 with ABB 800XA HMI), the safety system (HIMA HiQuad) and instrumentation systems and equipment
  • Support operations, maintenance and other technical teams by ensuring control system performance and availability
  • Respond quickly and effectively to problems and breakdowns
  • Plan, coordinate and communicate daily instrumentation maintenance activities
  • Adhere to the permit to work system while carrying out maintenance activities
  • Participate as a part of an offshore emergency response team
  • Report all accidents, near misses and hazardous conditions

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work onboard the Terra Nova FPSO, transportation to / from the FPSO is provided from St. John’s, Newfoundland
  • As this an offshore position, you will be required to maintain mandatory training and certification for continued offshore work
  • The shift schedule is a 21 days on / 21 days off rotation, 12-hour shifts
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • Pay rate in accordance with Appendix A of the Collective Agreement between Terra Nova Employers’ Organization and Unifor Local 2121
  • Qualified residents of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador will be given first consideration in the staffing of this position
