Job summary

Campus Living Centres in Southwestern Ontario is seeking a Maintenance Technician to keep the building safe and well maintained. The role includes preventative maintenance, daily repair requests, and coordinating with outside contractors on site.

You will perform in-suite maintenance such as drywall, painting, flooring, basic electrical, plumbing and HVAC troubleshooting, while documenting work and participating in on-call rotations. OHSA and WHMIS training are required before starting.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of commercial electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems.
• Competent with general physical plant repairs.

Responsibilities

• Participate in on-call rotation and diagnose, repair, or identify maintenance issues.

• Perform in-suite maintenance: drywall, painting, flooring, basic electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
• Maintain records of all work and complete daily repair requisitions.

The Maintenance Technician must ensure that the entire building is in safe and good working order at all times. This includes a combination of preventative maintenance tasks, daily repair requisitions, and supporting outside contractors when on site.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

• Participate in an on-call rotation with the ability to diagnose, repair, or identify the source of maintenance issues and recommend appropriate solutions; elevate issues to Senior Technicians or management when required.
• Conduct routine and assigned building walks, accurately identify deficiencies, and properly document, track, and log findings; perform on-site assessments and determine appropriate corrective actions or escalations.
• Complete most maintenance tasks independently, with limited exceptions requiring Senior Technician expertise or intervention.
• Demonstrate sound knowledge of building systems, including the ability to identify, assess, and triage major issues until an appropriate solution is implemented.
• Perform a wide range of in-suite maintenance tasks, including drywall repairs, painting, flooring, millwork, basic electrical work, plumbing, and HVAC troubleshooting.
• Daily repair requisitions are to be completed in a timely fashion to ensure proper building operation and customer satisfaction. Tasks can include, but are not limited to:
  • Replacing or repairing burnt out lights and fixtures
  • Moving furniture and appliances
  • Basic plumbing repairs and replacements, including unclogging toilets
  • Fixing damaged sections of drywall
  • Maintaining interior finishes, including vinyl wall coverings and painting
  • General janitorial tasks such as garbage collection and spill cleanups
  • Keep detailed records of all work
  • Any other maintenance or janitorial duties as required or asked to perform
• The maintenance person’s role can be strenuous and requires the individual to be in good physical condition. Physical demands include:
  • Climbing ladders
  • Moving appliances and furniture
  • Repetitive lifting of up to 60lbs
  • Cardio vascular endurance for tasks such as snow removal and climbing stairs
  • Working in confined spaces, including lying on their side or working on their knees for up to 30 minute.
  • Ability to grip and manipulate basic hand tools and parts
  • Hand dexterity and fine motor skills for working with small parts
  • Repetitive reaching or working above their head
  • Majority of the working day spent standing conducting repairs and maintenance

Health & Safety

Work in the manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by the OHSA, regulations, and Campus Living Centres (e.g. wearing safety shoes, confining hair, jewelry, or loose clothing around moving parts, etc.).

Online training modules and in-person training must be completed before starting regular duties.

WHMIS 2015 and GHS system, and standard operating procedures training must be completed prior to beginning regular duties.

Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma, Recognized College Diploma preferred

Experience Required

Minimum of 1 year industry experience or equivalent
